Weird question about a 1997 Del Sol build date

I recently purchased a Del Sol Si for my SO, and was digging through the pile of original paperwork with this car. The car has an ECU that doesn't officially exist for Del Sols in Honda's parts...

Re: California Emissions 1997 Del Sol

Just got a callback from a friend at Honda who said 37820-P28-346 and 346RM were a warranty repair/replacement ECUs for a defective design with the P28-A54. His thought was that the RM was installed...

California Emissions 1997 Del Sol

Good evening, folks. I’ve run into a really REALLY weird one.

Here’s the problem: I recently purchased a mint 97 Del Sol for my SO, automatic, low miles, I’m the second owner. Original owner...

Re: will sh ecu work on base model??

Right. The "brains" of the ATTS in the SH are in another unit. The engines are the same, and should not have any different tuning. Plugs in, runs fine. That immobilizer is the problem.

Re: ECU Options

I've found a few 96 VTEC ECUs locally, and $300 isn't much of a concern. That's what a reconditioned stock ECU with the immobilizer removed would cost anyway. I'm looking into a chipped/reflashed...

Re: 92 Lude keeps dying

Gotta love a happy ending!

Though, that's a helluva weird way for the ignitor to die, it's pretty often "all or nothing" on those.

Glad it got fixed!

ECU Options

So I have a 1997 Prelude Base 5MT, and my ECU has a serious no-start problem that rears its ugly head whenever the temperatures drop below approximately 37 degrees Fahrenheit. I'm not interested in...

Re: 92 Lude keeps dying

I'd bet it's that ground wire losing connection. If it were the fuel delivery system losing pressure, I BELIEVE (it's been awhile) that the car would lose power first and sputter out.

Re: 92 Lude keeps dying

First, you have my sympathy. I HATE electrical problems.

With that said, check the connection to the fuel pump. If you soldered ANYTHING, re-solder it. Also, and probably more importantly,...

Re: No spark issue (and yes I've searched for 2 weeks straight)

Check your ECU connectors then, because this bad voltage is what is exhibited when there is an ECU short/glitch/witchcraft, too. Is the CEL that comes on and then goes off different than any other...

Re: No spark issue (and yes I've searched for 2 weeks straight)

Seconded.

There's a short there between the ECU and ignition switch or switch to the coil.

Re: h22a vs h22a4

1) Don't bump old threads.

2) Look at the block stamp on the front left of the engine block, below the distributor. If it says "H22A" then it is a JDM motor. If it says "H22A2", or "H22A4", or...

Re: 5th Gen SH Strange Electrical or Immobilizer Problems?

I had a similar issue:

My rotor inside the distributor cap wasn't fastened on correctly, and the screw had come loose... this screw was apparently causing a short in the distributor or smacking...

Re: No spark issue (and yes I've searched for 2 weeks straight)

:scared:

Well, with that many hacked wires, at the very least, check your ECU ground... May be under the throttlebody or on the thermostat housing. Wouldn't require too much effort, and no ECU...

Re: No spark issue (and yes I've searched for 2 weeks straight)

Check my thread below yours... Try swapping ECUs with another car. You may have fried it, and it can cause bizarre ignition issues. My ECU would power the car, run great when warm, but there was...

Re: Cold Weather starting problem 97 Base Prelude

Solved it. I read another post on a prelude specific board awhile back about the ECU causing this issue when it became cold. Apparently the technician at the owners dealership knew of this problem,...

Re: Cold Weather starting problem 97 Base Prelude

Nope. Got the main relay out of the car, warmed it to room temperature and even hit it briefly with the hair dryer: Nothing. I even held it when I started the car: three clicks were there. No start....

Re: Cold Weather starting problem 97 Base Prelude

Relay is a great idea. I am hearing the click and can clearly hear the fuel pump engage, so I'd initially dismissed the relay. I had a CRX with a bad relay once, but it wouldn't start for other...

Re: Cold Weather starting problem 97 Base Prelude

Okay, wasn't the valves. All were too tight, both exhaust and intake. Loosened all of them, tried to start, and it did the exact same thing: cranked but didn't start. All plugs are soaked in...

Re: Cold Weather starting problem 97 Base Prelude

Ran it down to a gallon in the tank and filled it back up, used some Heet in the tank with injector cleaner, and the car ran just fine on Saturday. At that point, it was 50+ degrees and sunny. ...

Re: 01' SH/MT H22A4 compression test

There's an excellent video on youtube of a guy doing a compression check on a Prelude. I cannot post a link from work, but have a look for it, may solve your problem.
