Normally I've over in the racing subforum but thought I'd post this here for ya.

Do you own a 2006 to 2009 Honda Civic with a coolant leak? You could be in luck. Honda is offering a new engine...

Re: Starting up Autocrossing

Biggest suggestion - do you research and take your time before you go modifying or buying a car for the track. Figure out what you really want to do and be in. I've seen too many people spend money...

Re: Tire management- Hoosiers

That is a whole 'nother big discussion on tuning. Lot of different opinions about the use of pyrometers. Start talking with some experienced people in the tire industry. You can even call Hoosier's...

Re: Tire management- Hoosiers

I personally think the Tire Rack option is nice compared to not being able to heat cycle, but unfortunately really do not believe it's as good as doing it on track. I've also spoken with some people...

Re: Tire management- Hoosiers

The first session should consist of no more than 10-15 minutes of running. The early part of the session should be run at an easy pace, with the speed gradually increased until the end of the...

Re: 225 vs. 205 tires

I think the 8" would be just fine.

Re: 225 vs. 205 tires

I ran Hoosier 225s for many years on a 6" wide tire (SCCA ITB class where 6" was the max width). However, I still believe there are some tracks where a 205 would be faster due to rolling resistance....

Re: How do you fight the feeling of moving on...and regretting everytime ?

I have a lot of amazing memories which I would have missed out on otherwise. One can't justify this sport financially. I actually have a race budget saved up for the 2013 year and it's hard not to...

Re: First Track Day

There's a lot of information (free) here: http://www.goaheadtakethewheel.com/hpde-time-trials/hpde-racing-main.php

Only thing I should update is my opinion on brake pads. Stock non-performance...

Re: New Book: Ultimate Speed Secrets by Ross Bentley

I really like the series of his books. Some seem to repeat a bit but realize everything builds on top of each other. Does this one go into new techniques or is it more a combo of previous books with...

Re: SCCA questions

It's absolutely amazing how much it costs to build a front running car in a competitve field. The SM build sheet is right around $20k without being extravagant (good seat, but not crazy), $4k for the...

Re: SCCA questions

No matter how many times people state this, it seems like people entering the sport ignore it but eventually see the reality, then start giving this advice to start the cycle all over again. :)

Re: SCCA questions

This! When you get a log book, they are ensuring the various safety items comply with the category your car is documented for. The inspector might bust your balls a bit, but that's about it.

Re: Rain / Wet Track - On Track Driving Tips?

I prefer to race in the rain than on a dry track. In addition to what has been said, try to round our your corners a bit more than you might in the dry.

Matt mentioned sorting out where the grip...

Re: Noob with lots of noob questions and an ambitious plan

Yeah, the rule book sure does look large! As others have said, at first don't do anything to your car than basic prep / safety work. Go out and get a feel for things, then make your decision on how...

I've been spending the off season learning how to left foot brake in my street vehicles. I'm not sure that it'll be faster, but want to try it for myself.

No way that I think it'll be appropriate...

Re: Budget road race tire - help

Used tires are a great way of getting them less expensively. I have several used 14"s sitting in my basement. ;)

If you're using 15"s, the SM deal is pretty damn good.

What I did in the past...
