I personally think the Tire Rack option is nice compared to not being able to heat cycle, but unfortunately really do not believe it's as good as doing it on track. I've also spoken with some people...

I ran Hoosier 225s for many years on a 6" wide tire (SCCA ITB class where 6" was the max width). However, I still believe there are some tracks where a 205 would be faster due to rolling resistance....

This! When you get a log book, they are ensuring the various safety items comply with the category your car is documented for. The inspector might bust your balls a bit, but that's about it.

Used tires are a great way of getting them less expensively. I have several used 14"s sitting in my basement. ;)

If you're using 15"s, the SM deal is pretty damn good.

I have a total of three sets of Hoosier 225/50/14 R6 compound tires that are unmounted (never were), brand new with stickers still on them. Buyers can purchase 1, 2 or all three sets of these tires....
