Update:
Spent the Weekend rebuilding the tranny. Took awhile to figure out the problem with the LS case but got it. It wasn't the LS case. The outer/upper differential bearing was not shimmed...

alright, when I place the ls case over the itr gearstack ot binds. I am able to get the snap ring on place but the 2 cases do not come together fully. at that point the drive shaft cannot be turned...

Anybody see a reason why a LS case won't fit on the ITR bellhouse??? Theoretically they are exactly the same except for the shim thickness.

Now that you mention it that spring would be responsible for driving the fork/sleeve up into place. If it was weak it would not be able to get the sleeve into place and potentially cause a grind??

Yep, replaced the synchros!
Are you referring to #10 spring. If so, no didn't get checked.

Alright, replaced the 1/2 sleeve set, 3/4 sleeve set, 2nd gear fork, and detent washers. I can select 2nd but getting grinding now. Everything is installed correct. No grinds for 3/4. I shouldn't be...

apart=down to the bones. doors, hood, fenders, will all be reinstalled Thursday. car will need new front/rear bumpers and windshield. I'll get pics up by late Thursday

I drove the car out from Oregon in summer 2008 and parked it. Was always a Oregon car so no rust. Car is currently apart to prep for cage and paint. Wife says it has to go! Car has rear disc brake...

'00 ITR tranny has me locked out on downshift to second from third. Everything else is fine, no grinds and other gears work through up and downshifts. I can downshift to 2nd if at a complete...

A bad O2 sensor or the cat converter is dead. Either one is causing the car to run rich.
