I found the answer at Wal-Mart today. Their replacement battery for my Honda has the top posts so that they are on the engine side of the battery when it is installed, with the positive terminal...

Besides putting on a transmission cooler for an automatic, you should not drive in high gear - auto in D3 and not D4 or manual third instead of fourth.

Instead of putting more load on the headlight switch, it would be better to use a relays for each fog light. They can be wired under the hood to the low beam bulb wires.
