Re: All motor Nissan setup and numbers

295cfm is believeable. But you've got a lot of work ahead to gain that extra 85cfm. Going from 320-380 is NOT like going from 260-310. Most production heads, you can find the first extra 30-40cfm...

Re: All motor Nissan setup and numbers

theorhetical max with 36mm valves is 432cfm. thats using 138 cfm per sq in., which is the MAX an orifice can flow under perfect conditions. Yes, that's more than what the OP is claiming, but the...

Re: How to check coil bind?

Yes, the installed height mic works great for OHV heads like the one posted above, but I haven't found one yet that works good in a Honda B head. I use the ones pictured above everday, that is the...

Re: How to check coil bind?

I'm not sure exactly what tool you're referring to. To check installed height, you can get reasonably close w/ a pair of dial calipers, or check the tip height of the valve & subtract the distance...

Re: Cost to benefit: oversize valves?

When Honda designed the K24, (86x99), they went with 36mm INT valves. Just sayin.

Re: How to check coil bind?

You don't really measure the height of the fully compressed spring so much as you measure the difference between the installed height and its height @ coil bind. Its sort of semantics because the...

Re: Randy Owens H series Intake Manifold Testing

I was saying that for JayWests head.

Your cylinder head already has increased volume and larger throat. Your top end should do better.

Re: Randy Owens H series Intake Manifold Testing

choke point is downstream of mani.

Open up the manifold face and throat and watch top end power climb. :)

Re: The H vrs K Head Debate Pics INSIDE !!!

If you look at the K, its straight where it counts. Nice, straight ports with little to no short side work very well on high HP engines, but the valve angle has to be real extreme, like 9 deg. The...

Re: The H vrs K Head Debate Pics INSIDE !!!

You don't want to make the short on the K similar to the H. Brad got the H's short side about as good as it can get, but it still sucks.

Re: Adv. Port Theory Discussion: Bias flow and directionality

On the H22 head, actually all the production honda heads ive seen, the EXH is where the most compromise is made due to packaging requirements. Power steering, EXH manifold packaging and overall cyl...

Re: Naturally Aspirated Engine Theory Discussion

Now you're getting into area's where info = $$$. valve size is usually calculated as a % of the bore.
5 & 6 valve heads aren't more common for 2 main reasons: chamber shape & weight. Yes, I said...

Re: Naturally Aspirated Engine Theory Discussion

I think port volume is mainly dictated by engine size, cmashaft type, and desired peak rpm, in no special order. I think you go with the biggest valve that you possibly can without running into other...

Re: Naturally Aspirated Engine Theory Discussion

Well, it should be obvious that you need 'extensive headwork' when installing larger valves, in order to keep port geometry optimized for power.

In your other post, youve said youve never seen...

Re: Naturally Aspirated Engine Theory Discussion

You cant just install 1mm OS valves and then put a huge cam in and go. But there are things you can do to get the necessary clearance to run at whatever centerlines you want. Youre just going to pay...

Re: How to tell if a block is sleeved.

Is that some sort of sealant between the sleeves or gasket residue?

Re: How to tell if a block is sleeved.

OK, to help out some more then...

Sleeves are a 1 peice design, 99% of the time, usually ductile iron. OE Honda sleeves are a 2 piece design. You can see the difference in material, the inner...

Measure? If its a GSR block, and its 85mm, it has to be sleeved.

Re: Parts from Japan

Do you want to make power or do you want to be unique?

Besides, putting Japanese cams, in a Japanese engine, and into a Japanese car, is not really all that unique.
