A 96 here mean sold new in 96, not manufactured in 96 - so yes an OBD1 would be preferable.

An update - my buddy went to Honda in Wellington NZ and spoke to a service technician who told him, wait for this, its un-freakin-beleivable that 'the A stood for the SOHC and the Z was the DOHC'
