If your goal is just higher freeway mileage, a ring + pinion swap is much cheaper and much easier than an engine swap.

Your skeleton has no strength in the direction perpendicular to the bars. It would provide almost no strength if someone sat on the hood. For it to provide any real funciton, you'd have to add some...

VR6 engines have 1 cylinder head, 7 main bearings and 6 crank throws.
V6 engines have 2 cylinder heads, 3 crank throws and 4 main bearings.
A VR6 is an inline 6 with offset cylinders.

The turbos sit in the valley, and the intake pipes split around like log manifolds on each head. The whole thing is extremely compact.

I'm an idiot, those bearings support a thrust load. The new part will keep the bearing caps from deflecting in the direction of the axles, so it will slightly change the loading of the original part.

I don't understand why this is supposed to fix that particular failure mode. You've still got the same piece of cast material, under the same loads, with the same hole in it at the same geometry....
