most springs are cheap now, eibach makes a good one, if you want coilovers you can get ground controls or skunk2. they will work with the stock shocks for awhile, eventually the stock...

you can take the alternator out and take it to a parts store, they have a tester there.
or you can use a volt meter and test it. i believe you test at the point where there is a rubber piece...
