Can a bad AC compressor bearing cause it to not work?

My AC has been blowing warm and the compressor makes a noticeable 'grinding' sound when the AC is engaged. The clutch does engage and spin when the compressor is turned on though. I'm assuming the...

Re: Question regarding thermostat and heater hoses (preventative maintenance)

Gates hoses should be a suitable replacement, yeah? It's not like I have to buy OEM Honda hoses? I actually bought one of those blue silicone hose sets years ago but never installed the heater hoses...

Re: Question regarding thermostat and heater hoses (preventative maintenance)

The back heater hoses are easy? It looks kinda tight in there, lol; I was also reading that the 'nipples' on the heater valve and the ones on the firewall/heater core are fragile and to not use...

Question regarding thermostat and heater hoses (preventative maintenance)

2000 Civic with 160k miles. I've replaced the two main radiator hoses but am still running the original 3 heater hoses and 1 bypass hose. I have heard the heater hose directly under the distributor...

Re: Possible front jack locations?

Yeah the car has been in previous front end collisions but I hadn't heard that bodyshops used cheaper (and weaker) replacement core support frames until now. I had been using that front jack point...

Re: Possible front jack locations?

Oh there, yeah that's where I place my jackstands once the car is jacked up. Am I just gonna have to lift the car on each side one at a time from now on.

Possible front jack locations?

So I jacked up my car as usual, using that little spot in the front, towards the driver side to jack up my car and the whole core support frame bent. Resulting in me having to hammer the radiator...

Re: Engine died while driving, unable to start.

I noticed my error was trying to set the ignition timing while the engine was still warming up. I was able to adjust it correctly after I let the engine get up to operating temperature.

One...

Re: Engine died while driving, unable to start.

So basically the way to get lucky when a timing belt goes is that the camshaft will quickly try to go into a neutral position from the pressure from the valve springs?

I checked my ignition timing...

Re: Engine died while driving, unable to start.

Yeah I'm happy for that. To be honest I'm a little clueless on what happens when the belt breaks; doesn't both the camshaft and crankshaft still move under momentum?

Re: Engine died while driving, unable to start.

Yeah the tester was faulty. Thank goodness for that. It didn't make sense my engine would run if it had zero compression on all cylinders.

I exchanged it for a new tester. On a cold and dry test,...

Re: Engine died while driving, unable to start.

I had checked both the crank pulley and cam gear were at both TDC when I set the timing belt but I will check it again tomorrow.

Re: Engine died while driving, unable to start.

Well I replaced all the gaskets and seals and timing belt. Did a compression test today and it reads a fat zero on all 4 cylinders. I disconnected the wire for the distributor and the fuse for the...

Re: Engine died while driving, unable to start.

Alright, thanks for the advice. I was doing some research and it looks like someone had success installing the seal using a deep 32mm socket. So I might grab one of those from harbor freight since it...

Re: Engine died while driving, unable to start.

Okay yeah, I'll grab a OEM oil pump O-ring and oil pan gasket. I might pick up the paper gasket too since I think it's just a few bucks.

I'm still uncertain if my crankshaft seal is leaking...

Re: Engine died while driving, unable to start.

Yeah I didn't really think it was the crank or cam seals either, because it seemed a bit too clean.

Does the oil pickup tube have to be removed and separated from the oil pump and then that paper...

Re: Engine died while driving, unable to start.

Ah I didn't know the lower timing belt cover had a drain port hole. I guess you guys might be right then about that crankshaft seal. When people say crankshaft seal and oil pump seal; are people...

Re: Engine died while driving, unable to start.

I suppose I could replace the cam gear seal for posterity but it does not appear to be leaking enough to cause any issue, as the entire area is very clean and dry; it's only the seal itself that...

Re: Engine died while driving, unable to start.

Alright, I slapped on a new belt and the engine started without any odd sounds. I'm assuming that's a good sign?

I only let it run for a couple seconds to see if it actually turns on because I'm...
