But considering this thread and all the stuff you went through, is $3500 for a cage from ANY SHOP worth the money...

Don't go cheap on the traction bar. Poorly designed copycats will only tear up your suspension, the geometry of the traction bars are critical.

Notching it won't solve your problem with the side...
