Took them long enough. You could buy a body in white from the American companies for the last 40 years. Too bad the suspension sucks on the new Civics. Otherwise I would start with it.

Sign me up for a run of DC2 shells. What do the japs do with old tooling? I know at one time someone had revived MGBs and was selling new shells, I wonder if we will ever see anything like that with an asian car?

The MGB is still being produced, but a lot of that has to do with English laws that require a manufacture to supply parts for cars that are still on the road.
Unfortunately Honda gains nothing by re-popping the old cars. They want to keep up their green image and so they will continue to build boring cars.

I might consider this for a future rally car build. However, I need to have a VIN on the shell because I need to register/insure the car because we transit on public roads.
But I agree, the suspension isn't ideal compared to EG/EK/DC shells.

I would say that the new MGB shell maker British Heritage purchased the gear at a BL firesale of sorts after they went bankrupt.I do believe E type Jag bodies are available too.If only you could buy a new 356 speedster one.

Billy, actually that suspension is better for rally. Strut fonts have a ton more travel than ours. R3 Civic parts swap right in :D

Yeah the R3 is an FIA class for 2wd 2000cc cars. And the Civic R3 is based on the Euro Type R.

Yeah I know the struts, there's limitations on both though. Direct swapping of the R3 components would be pretty awesome. Still, no contingency from Honda for stage rally (they just added rallycross this year, so maybe...) is a bugger. But even without R3 part swapping, can still GearX kit the 6 speed and have a fun car.
It all depends how the suspension is designed around it too. When I was comparing the Arvon Tower "kick" at LSPR it looks like my EK actually has more suspension travel than the O'Neil's R2 fiesta.
I see myself eventually building an R2 Fiesta unless this is sticking around. But I emailed Honda asking them about it, and they said they CANNOT give you a vehicle with a VIN on it. I would have to most likely go above there head and beg/plead with some Honda Racing lead to get one with a VIN. Reason we need a VIN for rally, we transit on public roads and we need the car registered and insured (basic minimum coverage) to drive on the transit roads.

So with this civic option for rally, you'd buy a salvage car to swap all the parts then use that car's vin.

Yeah, but a shell with no VIN still doesn't work. Granted, you CAN do it doesn't mean I would do it. There are only two VINs that relate to the original car on my Honda with the one that's on the firewall and one on the dash. The VIN/Trans don't match because it wasn't from my car. Sure, you could swap dashes and for visual inspection that's your VIN until they go hunting for the one on the firewall. And I know they don't even check any of that anyway. But for legal reasons if you got in an accident on transit, you'd be in a lot of trouble if they got pickey on the car.
And the R3 stuff is fine and dandy, but they're looking at $140k for a complete car.
I put a price kit together using one of these shells and came out with around $40k for something that is R2 spec'd but runs the K20 w/ 6 speed dog box not counting labor (which I would be doing on my own) with a good $6k suspension.
