Takata Expiration Date
looking to buy some takata harnesses but I wanted to know what the expiration date means exactly. Can we not use them on the street after they expire or is that only for track use? Let me know..... thanks

Re: Takata Expiration Date (carlosd68)
I don't know CA law specifically, but I don't believe they are legal to use to on the street at all. I know I have gotten flak for just having my harnesses in the car on the way to events (not using them, just sitting on them while using the stock belts).

Re: Takata Expiration Date (ATS*Mark)
^Which then you can not use them for SCCA racing and some other organized racing events if they are expired. Correct me if I'm wrong? But i belive you can still use them on track days, like HPDE's and for fun track days.

lapping days and autox's you do not have to have a FIA harness. well at least i didn't. now i have a takata some i should be fine for most HPDE and NASA events if i get the money saved up

im going to take a shot in the dark and say if the event REQUIRES a harness it needs a non expired harness, all other events im guessing you will be fine

thats weird tho , i can understand not requiring one , but if you have one thats expired and being allowed is kinda weird.

Re: Takata Expiration Date (ATS*Mark)
its also odd that a clean flawless harness cant be used right now if the expiration date is 2006, but who knows i could be and probably am wrong

I thought they expired a few years after you buy them? Like if you bought a harness on 05 it shouldnt be an 06 date right?
And as for HPDE's and Solo 2 all of that expired harnesses are fine, at least in my experience and understanding. As long as they are not torn up...

Re: (NAisBEST)
What I said before is that you CAN"T use them for SCCA Racing events, and other organazations such as honda challenge.... For races, but for lapping days and HPDE's and other such days that are for practice and FOR fun, you can, most of them don't even require a harnness. And of course its not legal to use on the street. Unless it says DOT approved.

now the question is this from first hand experience.
Has anyone ever received a ticket (besides a fix it tick it because some cops are just dumb) for driving around with only Harnesses??

I still got cited for a schroth rallye 3 (dot approved) non-correctable. Since then I only put the harness in at the event . And after purchase of the new HPDE project car, stock belts have been placed back in the daily and a 6 point simpson harness in the project
