Speed Limiter
Was just thinking about this.
Question- On a 1996 Integra GSR all stock, is there a "speed limiter" on the ECU ?
Top speed 142 at Daytona. Was it limited or aero drag vs HP

Re: Speed Limiter (dskull)
Yeah, that's probably a drag limited top speed. Not to many [manual] US Hondas with governed or redline limited top speeds.

Re: Speed Limiter (George Knighton)
The ITR has a rev limiter, but not a speed limiter.
A car like the Crown Vickey will "chip out" at 130, even if the revs are well below the limit.

Re: Speed Limiter (4doorH22)
Yup, but I think "they" call it redline-limited top speed.
Gearing limited = redlining in fifth (in a 5 gear tranny)
Drag limited = Air resistance + rolling resistance, engine is maxed out against those forces
Governor limited = limited by the ECU, either by revs in a certain gear, or MPH/KMH
That's my very humble take on it anyways.

Re: Speed Limiter (George Knighton)
oops. So to answer the original question:
the GSR does NOT have a speed limiter. If you hit 142, that was HP limited. The gearing in the GS-R should allow you to hit around 160mph at redline, if you could get there.
The only limiter the GS-R has is a rev limiter somewhere around 8100-8200 RPM, depending on the acuracy of your tach (I think the official number from Honda/Acura was 8100)
Now, most stock GS-Rs that I have seen tested in magazines have topped out around 130-135 measured. 142 maybe a little high, but between a potential back wind, maybe a little downslope, plust speedometer error, seems reasonable enough.

Re: Speed Limiter (SJR)
I've seen one photo of a GS-R speedo clocking something like 153mph. However, that car had a supercharger, which would give it the power necessary to deal with the drag at that speed. I think that car did actually run out of gear before it ran out of power.
