single rod race shifter - b series
after trying all the quick shifts, short shifts and long shifts we have decided to fabricated a custom shifter and linkage for our road race b series powered Integra
by running solid mounts we can eliminate the second rod on the linkakage and firmly mount our shift box above the tunnel .
we are working on a single rod with spherical bearing under the shifter , that passes through the tunel near the bulkhead and fixes too the gearbox via a helicopter style universal
we are currently on version #2 and have modified the linkage /pivots under the shifter to keep the sideways gate reasonably close .
by using spherical bearings and quality universals we have ended up with a completely slop free shifter that will hopefully avoid the embarrasing miss shifts !
anyone else looking at anything similar ?

i can get a picture of the actual piece after i get home from work. i used this in my car for a few track pass's and it seemed to work ok

I don't really understand the point of this. can some one explain? Is it just to make for faster 5th gear shifts?

I'm hoping Brian Slames sees this thread and posts up a pic of his custom linkage. IIRC, he has both rods running up above the tunnel to a custom box. Pretty bad *** lookin'.

Are you guys running a helical box or straight cut>? if so what kind of cut times are you using?

But those that run shifter boxes have things different than a normal setup. Our G-force shifter wouldn't be great for RR due to it being spring loaded so from 2-3 the shifter 'falls' into place making it harder to go to 1st. Also 5th and R are locked out.
I would love to see pics of the OP's shifter box </TD></TR></TABLE>

Sounds interesting. But I'm never in 1st or 2nd on the track. My biggest problem is trying to shift into 4th too quickly and missing it.

Re: single rod race shifter - b series (rota92)
I'm just curious if anyone has tried it on a helical cut box, or if it's even possible strain guaging for shift cuts that is.

agreed. or dragging with a ginormous turbo, sure. get yourself a gforce or liberty trans and have a good time.
but for road racing theres no need to shift the car hard/fast.
btw jack-the original hatchcrap is still winning races

Re: single rod race shifter - b series (.:Made in OC:.)
Here's the shifter I made, I was going to make a product out of it but its quite expensive to produce. Recently I have came up with some cost saveing solutions though, so if the demand's there who knows. It will also have an optional carbon or fiberglass box that can be used to enclose the shifter. this could also be fitted over the factory center console for a clean look for the daily cars.
How does it feel? well its very tight , No play at all. The throw is adjustable and is similair to your average short shifter minus all the play.

Yes, i believe it is still connected to all oem locations. I will ask Brian about this.

I just flat footed my stock trannies, although I understand that may be difficult/hard to do for laps on end lol</TD></TR></TABLE>
The MFactory close gear sets are semi-helical and use stock syncrho engagement. The PRO gear set is straight cut and uses stock synchro engagement. The PRO dog engagement has not been released yet. The only benefit I see using it on a track car would be the ability to shift during cornering without unloading the car as much as with syncrho engagement. The PRO dog ratios are 2.786, 1.900, 1.430, and 1.1. A lower final drive would be needed and you still have to clutch for upshifts to 5th gear. Having said that, I don't see there being an advantage for any US track car to use the shelf PRO dog set.

You are looking at around $400.
