-430,000 cars can’t be fixed by a software-only solution. A urea-based system, or a catylzer system, will need to be installed. It will be a “major fix.”
-Cars are anticipated to have a “one or two mile per hour top speed” performance loss. There’s no word on what that would do to power or acceleration specifically, but fuel consumption is expected to be the same

Re: The Official Formula 1 2015 Season Thread
LOL at TDI drivers having to carry a bottle of **** in their trunk and periodically refill it.
LOL at "top speed" being the chosen metric to obscure the performance hit.
Game. Set. Match.
Fair play to them for doing the right thing and going SCR, since software only would have absolutely crippled the car. Gonna cost 'em billions doe.

and i just meant expense for the massive re-engineering effort to retrofit a totally different catalyst + injection system on a half a million cars.

If I even own the car by the time it gets recalled, I will "lose" the notice (unless there is a significant financial incentive)

kinda doubt the feds are going to let this one slide. "something something never let a serious crisis go to waste."

Re: The Official Formula 1 2015 Season Thread
1.5 of 6 syncros are on their way out
Rear end whines
pitted rear cv inner joints caused vibration under load
Trunk release didn't work
I expected it to be rough for the price paid, and its serving its purpose, which is apparently to hold parts in its stripped interior and my T-shirt on top of it while collecting dust while I work on my AP2.
There are racecar parts slowly piling up, so there is hope for it to see the light of day again.
Edit: Maybe I don't understand the token dealie completely, but I don't understand how updates from one season to another can be limited. I can see keeping costs down mid-season, but isn't it supposed to be back to the drawing board when the season is over?

You expect the EPA to convince 50 different state's DOT to reject registrations for a recall? And properly process proof of recall being performed?
There is no precedent for that that I am aware of. The emissions testing stations might do it but that is only a handful of states (13 IIRC).

Re: The Official Formula 1 2015 Season Thread
they said it was for cost savings, but it really just locked in merc's dominance.

I wouldn't bet against a .gov with rustled jimmies though.

Re: The Official Formula 1 2015 Season Thread
If they left the regs more open but held onto the 4 PU a season rule it would naturally enforce some cost savings and be more simple. Make the rules if you need another PU you get less fuel. Take away either 10 kg from the total amount of fuel or 3 kg/hr from the fuel flow limit for each extra PU used.

Re: The Official Formula 1 2015 Season Thread
I'd bet the only thing the Feds are concerned with is getting the money from VAG for whatever fine they come up with.

Re: The Official Formula 1 2015 Season Thread
Nah. Fed's are interesting in grandstanding. Whatever they get from VAG will barely cover the costs of the **** show that's coming. It's a public profile grab.
My brother intends to run away from the recall. He's in FL, so he ok. In states with emissions testing, I assume they'll expect evidence of the recall notice being performed or something.
Otherwise the car will just get into cheat mode again and pass.

First lap sucks because the track map is in the way but the second lap (starts roughly at 2:20) is pretty awesome.
