Cool, more selection and contingency programs I'm sure are in the works.
The free market is a wonderful thing.
Kudos to BFG.

Yes, before the G-Force.
Keith, who probably doesn't have any original BRG-R1s, but does still have a couple of sets of Goodyear Blue Streaks...

If you had originals, they would be R's, not R1's

The return of "the groove of doom"!!!
Seriously, more choices is nearly always a good thing.
Funny how so many tire manufacturers have copied the same tread pattern, a slick with two longitudinal grooves. Hoosier was the first I saw, now you can get them from BFG, Hankook, Avon, ...
I don't see these at the Tire Rack yet, but there's info on the BFG website. It says that all the sizes will be available this Spring. It also says that they come with 4/32" of tread depth, which means there's no shaving necessary. I wonder why they have the treadwear indicator bars so close together?

The original was called the BFGoodrich Comp T/A R1.

Yep. They were my first R compound tire ever. I got them used from a friend, three years old, and they stuck great. *sniff sniff* Now I'm getting all sentimental.

Yes, the R1 was the track tire to use in the late 1980s, early 1990s. And BFG had a big contingency program and various deals for racers (had some kind of Club T/A or whatever they called it). They had a great marketing program.
