BAR no-go at Bonneville
Word in the land speed racing community is that the private record runs for BAR at the Bonneville Salt Flats next week have been canceled. Thunderstorms have drenched the salt and there is no realistic chance of a dry race course for the rest of the season.

Money, as I understand it, is not an issue. This whole thing is said to be a way to spend BAT dollars before the looming ban on tobacco advertising in F1 takes effect for good...

Many years ago I smoked Players in the black box with gold trim, much because of the old Lotus F1 connection. I have been tobacco free for nearly 20 years and F1 will be soon too. I'm better for kicking the habit and they will be too.

I don't smoke anything, but if I could get my hands on a pack of Players that weren't stale, I'd smoke those suckers like it was my job. They're ultra-pimp!
Then again, maybe that's the advertising dollars working on someone many years past when they thought they'd get a return on that investment.

Its money, coming into motorsports.
I cant comprehend how people think its a bad thing. Alcohol is responsible for drastically more death and destruction, yet its a-ok, but somehow tobacco is the devil? (for the record i dont smoke and hate cigarette smoke)

Please, don't make comments like this that you can't prove. Alcohol is not responsible for drastically more deaths than tobacco. Sorry, this is a irresponsible comment.
This is from the CDC:
http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/fac...t.htm
"More deaths are caused each year by tobacco use than by all deaths from human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), illegal drug use, alcohol use, motor vehicle injuries, suicides, and murders combined.2,4"

I just thought the Skoal Bandit and Joe Camel were characters when I saw them on race cars, kinda like WWF characters........ never had a desire to smoke anything though, maybe I was a dense child .
