On hard left turn's. i seem to be fuel starving unless i have a full tank of fuel.
i pulled the fuel pump out to check the screen and baffles but i found no reason for it.
Any one have this problem?

standard OP for a lot of CRX/civic of the 88-91 years.

No one has ever found out why, or what the differences are.


Search around there has to be a good 3 different 3 plus page threads on this issue

i looked at a few but most were not track cars with high g fuel problems.
the vast i read were turbo and street cars.
did you see something i did not?

I've lost track of the threads, but the locally accepted cure with the SoCal H4 guys is to run a Type-R fuel pump or a Walbro 255 (I think). No one's ever been able to tell me why it works, but a lot of guys say that it does...

I only ever had that problem on my CRX if I was under 1/2 a tank. If you're having the problem with a full tank, I'd probably start replacing components starting with the fuel pump.

Oh well here it is again:

Take a stock tank and cut the bottom out. Remove all of the factory baffling and catch cup. Build a square box with hinged trapped doors on all four corners. Weld it together. Now position it in the tank so it is pointed like a diamond. No flat side should be on a pivot axis. You want more than one door opening at the same time. Weld it to the bottom you cut out. Now weld the bottom back in the tank. Pressure test the tank to 100psi. Check all of your welds with soapy water very carefully. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP, YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT.

I d id this on my time trial car and could run down to 1/4 tank before I had any problems. With the old stock tank I had to keep the thing at 3/4 or more to keep the pickup covered.

I have a 255 in the tank with a longer pick up that i made which helped some but i cant run below 3/4 tank on hard left turns.
this is a kind of new problem that i have not had in the past, as soon as the car could handle more g's this problem appeared.
I was thinking of just installing a fuel cell?
i would like to cut my tank up to make a box but man there are only 100 ways to kill my self so i do not trust my welding skills that much.

Its really not that big a deal to get it safe. I did some welding to mine last year and just drained and dried it of gas, then FILLED it with a hose and some dish soap. Rinsed once or twice and presto. If you're not a great welder, you can always do the prep work yourself and have someone else do the welding. Some radiator shops will work on/repair fuel tanks. Of course if you can afford a good fuel cell, that would be better.

ep just take the old tank out and drain it good. Then pull the sending unit out and fuel pump out. Let it air out for a little while then fill it full of water and let the hose wash it out for about 10 minutes. Then drain it and let it dry. Good to go.

A fuel cell would be a better option like other mentioned, but they are 400-1000$, so pick your poison.

I have the same issue specially with multiple left handers together. I figured that I have about 4-4.5 gallons in the tank when it starts to starve.

almost down to 1/4 tank before I have it starving even on the big left hand banking here at gateway..

My R i can run way down on fuel but not the rex for some reason.

Now i have found a new problem...
Fuel issue aside i found that my rex gets real light on the top of 4th gear.. SCARY light!!!
I gave a batch of CMC guys a heart attack this weekend while i was out on track with the hpde group.. i stayed with them and was pulling on a few on the long straights where they thought they were safe from little Honda's.
Its sad when i was able to out pull a few cmc mustangs in a drag race along the big straights..

Has anyone ever tried filling the stock tank with fuel cell foam?
I was going to try this but was waiting.

Also has anyone ever seen a plastic stock replacement tank made for the ef chassis. I thought it might be a great weight savings opportunity withought changing the CG and RC of the car too much.

thats weird, i have been able to run them down really low. Probably close to under two gallons.

Last weekend I went out for the 2nd session on Sunday with ~1/3 of a tank, ~1/2 way through the session I had fuel starvation issues through T4, and a couple other turns on Sears Point, I'm running the stock DX tank with a Walbro in tank fuel pump.

Looked into it but my mod solved the problem. Plus for serious racing use a full cell is really a much better option.

Why don't you use a remote sump, like they do in Japan?

It's a small tank, with a secodary fuel pump in it, that holds about 1-2 liters.
Sard makes a real nice one.

The tank pump just keeps the sump full, and pump in the sump feeds the engine.
The sump has an overflow line that returns the surplus to the tank at zero pressure.

So when the tank pump picks up air, there is no pressure/flow lost to the engine,
because the sump pump has a reserve volume of fuel to draw from.
Once the tank pump comes back on-line, it replenishes the sump.

Both the yellow car and the red car starves under 1/2 tank. Its standard operating procedure for me to run with atleast 1/2 tank of gas. I blew away way too many good autox runs when I forgot I had dropped to 1/4 tank or lower.
