Default Calculating dry weight: how much does gas weigh?

I put my car on the digital scales yesterday and I'm trying to calculate the dry weight in race trim. Does anyone know how much pump gas weighs in comparison to water? I know how many liters of gas I had, and I know a liter of water weighs 1 kilo, so if someone could tell me gas weighs, for example, 63% as heavy as water, I could calculate how hevy my gas was. Thanks all.

Water - 62.4 pounds per qubic foot..

Gasoline weighs about 6 pounds per gallon and diesel is about 8 pounds per gallon.

But to answer your question....
Specific gravity of petroleum = 0.88

1 gallon gas = 6.152 LB

edit: anything you probably would ever need about weights and measures

except the weight for kerosine is wrong on the chart. It shouild be 6.7 pounds per gallon NOT 4.8. It IS HEAVIER than gasoline.

I once tried to answer this question while working at a big Petroleum company and got all the info.

Forget about 3 decimal places in the pounds per gallon number. The weight of gasoline varies by region and season. The colder the region or season, the lighter the gas is due to more butane being used to enhance vaporization on cold starts.

From the lightest possible gas to the heaviest, the difference is about 1/4 pound per gallon.

I just go with 6 pounds/gallon and call it a day!
