brake disc/caliper offset
this image is a early porsche 911 rsr brake setup.
i was noticing how deep much deeper it was compare to say the EG knuckles. now, some people have rim clearance at the spokes - like the 15x7 Enkei RPF1's. i was thinking no after market caliper setups for EG seem to includes the design where both the disc and caliper sit deeper - like a lower offset in wheels. would this be a terrible idea? it would just take a different caliper bracket and a deeper hat (for 2 piece rotors).

Re: brake disc/caliper offset
On a Honda with a low/negative scrub radius I am guessing there is very little room to move the disc inboard before you run into the lower ball joint/knuckle. Why not just get a wheel that fits, since there are plenty of nice wheels that will fit any brakes you want to put on your car without going to a custom rotor/ mounting assembly.

Re: brake disc/caliper offset
I run a 1.25" thick front rotor. I just had to decrease the offset on the rotor hat and find a wheel that would clear the caliper.
If you have enough clearance. On my car, the outside edge of the tire barely clears the fender.

1.25" thick? 31.75mm! that sounds pretty damn hefty. what size is it? what's the weight of it with hat? got pix? thx. :-)

Re: brake disc/caliper offset
That works fine if you don't mind altering the scrub radius on the front wheels, and assuming that the rules in your class allow for fender modifications other than typical fender rolling. I also prefer to keep my fender liners, but that's my preference.
Rotor with hat (12.9 x 1.25 rotor with aluminum hat) and mounting hardware is 13.8 lbs. The overall package (mounting hardware, caliper, pads, rotor, hat, rotor mounting hardware) is still lighter than OEM by right around 3 lbs (IIRC, I may be a tad off), however the rotor is much larger and will work nicely on some of the brake intensive tracks around here.
Here's a relatively recent picture. I'm still in the process of finishing a bunch of stuff, so the car is nowhere near complete. Also, tires in the picture are 245/40/17s, but I have decided to move down a class for next year, so I'll be running 225/40/17s instead.

Re: brake disc/caliper offset
Do you think the 6 piston wilwood kit with a 12.19" rotor will fit 16" RPF1s? I see they clear your 17's but how much room do you have from the inside of the wheel to the top of the caliper?

Re: brake disc/caliper offset
It's going to be really close. There's some clearance between my 17s and the caliper (I can take closer pictures, if you want), but not a lot. A 16" will have a 0.5" smaller internal radius, and with a 12.19" rotor, you'll move the caliper 0.36" inward (radially), so it'll be even tighter on a 16" RPF1 (assuming the 16" does indeed have a 1" smaller ID than the 17"). You might want to look at the PF01. I have a set of those as well, and IIRC, the clearance between the outside of the caliper and the wheel is greater. If you want me to take some more detailed pictures, let me know. I'm hoping to put in at least an hour a night working on a few things here and there on the car.

Re: brake disc/caliper offset
Yeah if you could take the pictures that would be highly appreciated. I looked at the wilwood site and the spec sheet says i need 7.07" from the center of the wheel to the inside to clear the caliper.

Re: brake disc/caliper offset
Here are some fitment pictures. The ID where the spokes meet the wheel is the critical part. I don't have a ton of clearance there, but behind the spokes, there is PLENTY of room.

Re: brake disc/caliper offset
Damn thats tight, what caliper is that, is it the dynapro 6 caliper?
Im looking at this kit http://www.wilwood.com/BrakeKits/Bra...emno=140-10735
and it says it clears 15's but rpf1 are tricky. Did you say that the brackets for the caliper are custom? If so do they push it out farther than the one in the off the shelf kit?

Re: brake disc/caliper offset
No, it's an SL6 radial mount caliper. The one I'm using is MUCH wider than the Dynapro 6 in that kit you linked.
Mine:
The Dynapro 6 from that kit:
The hats in that kit use a slightly shallower offset (0.45" vs 0.54"), so the rotor would be pushed outward just a tad further than my setup. I would not expect that to fit any 15" except MAYBE the Team Dynamics Pro Race 1; however the TD PR1 wheel has an ID that's similar to most 16s. I'd bet that there's no way these would fit with a RPF1 wheel. Using Wilwood's measurements, the Dynapro 6 requires a minimum radius of 6.94" to fit a 12.19" diameter rotor. My SL6 requires 7.07" for a 12.9" rotor. It seems the SL6 fits much more tightly against the rotor and requires less room inside the wheel. I just don't see how that Dynapro 6 is going to fit inside a 15" wheel...
The brackets are custom to fit the rotor and hat combo I chose.

Re: brake disc/caliper offset
I measured my friends 17's rpf1s yesterday and the inner radius was about 7 1/4 at the most, so i dont think 16's will fit the caliper im looking at, considering i'd have to take of 1/2" to compensated for a 16" rim.
