Default Best build Frankenstein B18 or D16 mini-me

Running a 1993 Dx htbk ... Has d16Zc (chipped) for 1/3 mi. oval track autocross.

Track rules say - No V-tec !

Looking for ideas and answers to build a bigger and more powerful Non-vtec engine ! However it has to appear like a stock engine for the year of car!! The Acura Integs are kickn ***... And rightfully so with the power options they can use being a stock unit ...But I wanna bring a EG sleeper and whoop some integs....

Not sure if a b18 frankenstein with b16 head would work or .....

Looking to you all for advice and answers to assist me in making this engine appear stock and ghost thru tech inspection .... !!
Need more Horsepower!

Help!

Drop in an LS B18B and drive the wheels off it.
Its not always HP that wins.. its 99% driver

Thanks guys for some tips! What are your thoughts on running a LS b18 bottom and with a b16 vtec head!
Was told with some internal parts swap outs ... I can gain more ponies .... Only thing is just need to replace head cover with a non-vtec cover !!!

Good, Bad or Ugly ????

Anyone that knows what a vtec motor sounds like when vtec kicks in will know you don't have a legal engine.

Put an h22 or f22 single cam in it, a f22 would blend in well if you want it "stock" looking

I get that ... When vtec kicks in it sound diff... That I already know...

But I have read a few articles taking a vtec head and putting on a non-vtec bottom end! There ain't no way it sounds the same ....

However like I said I'm just looking to get more power! Maybe the best thing I can do is drop a LS non-vtec in the car!
And focus on the suspension settings.... Max camber, caster, upgraded suspension components ....

Just looking to get around the stock power of a 93 civic htbk versus the Integs on the track...

The sayn goes in oval... If u ain't cheating u ain't wining neither!!

Looking at ways to get my car to the front pack ...

Thanks man! I thought about a prelude motor but wasn't sure if it looked obvious and didn't belong .... But that's the key to racing is tryn to get the upper hand without revealing ur hand!!

But that's good ... Gonna looking into that engine more ....

Thanks!

So the key to racing is knowingly bypassing/ignoring the rules?

Nah.

B18 is more than you need, and has been suggested already. If you want to so something dumb, I think you came to the wrong place for advice...

And that's saying something.

Good luck.

LOL! Clearly you know little to
Oval Track racing ... The fact teams in auto racing get caught doing it in F1, Nascar and Indy just shows that it's apart of racing and it's a never effort tryn to get one up on the competition....

There's more to racing oval than just driving.... Suspension setup, tire pressures etc.... However I have already concluded that B18 is the way to go and already on that task to get dun with a cam change etc...

Thanks for your comment.... no advice really... But ur comment was cute to say the least!

I appreciate your efforts and thoughts ... esteban!

Interpretation of rules is very different than ignoring the rules.

No VTEC is cut and dry.
Where the pros earn their living are the gray areas of the rule book. You're trying to justify blatantly cheating because people much smarter than you and I find ambiguities in a regulation and seek to exploit it. They are not the same. But keep on keepin' on brother.

Hahahahaha! You make me laugh.... I won't entertain ur endless ranking .... And end of these words...

You clearly no little of oval racing or track racing period .... And if you knew anything u wouldn't have offer advice of B18 to install when a B18 never was a stock option is EG civic ... So ur already going outside the rules of staying stock ....

However I will hold out for someone with a little more knowledge and that can provide useful info and not a rambling of play by the rules ... In racing everyone is cutting and tryn to get around the rules ... That's racing .... It's up to tech inspections to catch it! The fact a EG at the track running a B18 is a proof of that! Just that know one is rat'ing him out on the motor cuz he aint a winner every weekend and ain't cleaning up every weekend neither! If he were well there would be a lot of bitch'n! But there's the respect there to let u run what u brung!

But anyways ..... If anyone else has some actual good sound advice and knowledge it would be appreciated.....

Look forward to hearing from anyone else .... ....

Any rules about cams/valvetrain?

Just get a B20, add decent cams and beefen up the valve trane. With proper dyno tuning, and you will probably make more power than any B series VTEC engine (which makes this VTEC rule kind of pointless IMO).

BTW, I have always followed rules and I seriously hate people like you. I am not even sure why I am trying to help here... Maybe to try and steer you back into the rules?

Rules aren't tight on cams or valve tranes ... What tech seems to be focused on is suspension and no-vtec under the hood as they blow the comp away if you do! So oval tracks around me just nix'd the v-tec! Bring the racers to a more competitive forum! However no one is ripping engines down from what I have seen and gathered! But like it was mentioned before! It takes a lot to make ur car run upfront besides motor! Suspension setup changes constantly with weather, temps, tire pressure etc....
However I'm just looking to get a little more motor down the straight away!

Thanks for the advice, it's appreciated!

Your post says no VTEC... So suggesting a B18A/B is a problem how? My current EG setup is B20B w/ P8R head, but I have no idea what I'm talking about because.... why??

Are swaps not allowed in your class? But you're asking for advice on swaps anyways because you don't care about the rules cause that's for tech inspectors to catch? That's the gist of this thread?

If you care about the rules, buy an Integra and race it because the rules of the class favor it. If you don't care about the rules (as have been represented in your posts), then get a B18A/B or B20B in the EG and go have a blast.

Doooooooooooood,
Don't come on here telling us about cheatin aint tryin...
We don't care about cheatin.
Don't insult us because we turn both left and right.
We race autoX RR, TA, and they all have rules.
Our sanctioning bodies can penalize us, suspend us, and we would be labeled a cheat.
If turnin left is all you do, and you want to cheat that's all on you.

We made good suggestions. take them or leave them..

FYI yes way you can hear the difference with a vtec head on a non vtec block, but you didn't know that.

Use
Toda vtec killer cams and a B16b block with a b18c crankshaft.
That would be within the rules.

So you want to spend a bunch of money to build an engine that is clearly outside of the rules and you think none of your competitors will figure it out or protest it after you beat them?

This is a flawless plan.
