92-95 Civic camera mount.
While not legal in SCCA stock classes because you have to remove the one headrest post cover (probably weighs like 15oz) I thought I would show you a way to mount a video camera with the funky headrest posts in the 92-95 Civics. This mount came with my 91 Civic Si which has the double posts for the headrests. Sort of a version like this but not the whole aluminum bar:

The only thing I changed as you can see in the pics is using one U-bolt passing through the aluminium bar instead of two. Pop off the headrest covers, clamp the camera bar onto the metal bar that you uncovered, tighten everything down, and you can put the one cover back on.

I also added some rubber end caps to the exposed bolts on the back, and planning on getting rubber feet to cover the end where the duct tape is. The blue tape on the compact ball head is to stop it from rattling when the camera is not mounted.
During events I use a strap (either luggage strap or velcro strap) wrapped around the bar and the headrest. Dampens the vibrations. You also want to tether the camera to the bar incase the camera works it's way lose, but overall videos are great. I have videos posted on Facebook.
Not sure if this link will work:

Re: 92-95 Civic camera mount.
thats kool. but if you have an extra 200 bucks laying around the go pro camera works awesome! i have it on my dirt bike helmet and it works great. 170 degree viewing angle and waterproof the thing is just awesome. it comes with a mount that you can just stick on the dash or you can mount it to your bumper. not sure if thats legal but the thing is still a good deal for 200 bucks. it also comes with a protective casing. the website is www.goprocamera.com

Yeah that is one thing I don't have right now is money Which is why I went the cheap. I do need a new camera as the FPS is not that great on a 7 year old vid camera.
When the tape part of my camera was working the videos were much clearer downloaded in HD.

This does not look stable or safe.
Why not a gopro mount?
they are low cost and you can use any camera which has a tripod mount.
Very stable and safe.

Re: 92-95 Civic camera mount.
It's very stable, did a couple tests on the street, I'll see how well it functions at the next autox. Alot better/safer then the suction cup mount that came with my iPhone from Verizon.
Only way it could become unsafe would be if it somehow managed to become detached from the seat. With grade 10 hardware bolted through the factory headrest mount points and the fact that it only weighs about a pound, that seems just about impossible.
It's not close enough to the driver (unlike the OP's mount which puts the camera much closer to the center line of the car as well as much more forward. I'm also not using the same mounting points, I think mine are much more secure.) that there's any realistic way one could hit their head on it, and again it weighs about a pound and you'd be wearing a helmet at the time.
Normal camera mounts wouldn't work, it's for an iPhone.
Functional, Free, beautifully crafted. Pick 2

Re: 92-95 Civic camera mount.
Definently, I always think about spending the money on a gopro and decide its better off going towards racing consumables, the iPhone 4 I have actually works pretty well and the newer ones have much better cameras. There's also some cool datalogging/GPS stuff it can do on track and everyone seems to have one anyways.

There are advantages as you say above. With a gopro you need to get to a computer to upload a video, not the case with iphone. That alone is an advantage in my mind.
