Default "New" 2004 MDX with a few small problems.

Ok, I just got back from Florida yesterday with my "new" 2004 MDX. I am liking it really well, but am having a few small problems.

The first is that the temperature sensor is reading 2,097°F for the outside temperature. I don't think that any part of an MDX should be that hot. My question on this one is where to find the sensor and if anyone has had this problem before?

Another problem is that the DVD player doesn't want to "grab" the DVD. It seems to have a hard time pulling the DVD into the unit and "spitting it out". It requires a lot of help. The best price I have found on a new unit is about $1,000, so that is out of the question. Is there something I am missing in it's operation?

My other problem is that yesterday, the SRS light came on. I drove to a few different places and turned it off and restarted it (this seems to make the light go off in my TSX), with no results in getting the light to go off. If I buy an OBD scantool, would it tell me what the SRS code is for? What is a good scantool to get for an Acura?

I am ordering a shop manual (as well as an owner's manual) from HelmInc today, but it will be a while before it arrives. Any ideas on any of these problems? Thanks in advance for any help with these issues.

I tested the sensor and it checked-out okay. There was some water in it, but I dried it out before reinstalling it. I did find on AcuraMDX.org, a procedure to adjust the correction + or - 5° and thought it might be a long-shot, but tried it anyway. I thought it was reading 2097° off, but it was only showing the first four numbers, it was really 2,097,258° off. I just set it to -5 since it was 63° outside and it was reading 68°, so now that problem is fixed, I hope.

I ran a Carfax report on the MDX, and saw that it had been to a dealer in Florida numerous times, but it just told me "vehicle serviced". I called the dealer and they faxed me the service history, and this problem was reported 3 years ago, but never resolved. The report said "Customer Refused Service". I guess they were going to charge her a lot to do something I did for free.

Oh yeah, the procedure is as follows, posted by Skoobahead on AcuraMDX.org January 27th at: http://www.acuramdx.org/forums/showt...threadid=35193

*Ignition 'ON'

*Wait until NAV system is powered

*Press"Menu/Map Guide/Cancel" together for 3 seconds.

A diagnostic menu screen will now display similar to this:

http://www.wikihow.com/images/a/a0/001.jpg

*Press "Functional Setup"

*Press "Outside Temperature"

You can now adjust your outside temperature +/- 5 degrees.

This is very useful information for other applications as well, but I didn't have time to explore them all.

Does anyone know how to check and see what the code for the SRS is? Will an OBD Scantool tell me this? I just called the Acura dealer here, and they wanted $112 just to check and see what the code is for. HelmInc sent me an email a few minutes ago telling me that the book was shipped today.

The DVD player seems to be working fine at the moment.

Thank you again for all of your help.

i dont know anything about the mdx but i would not let that srs light go. my brother was in an accident in his civic and the srs light had been on for about 6 months. when he hit a tree, the air bag never deployed. if you seen the car you would be amazed that it didnt go off. he installed a jdm wheel thats why the light was on but it was an srs ctr wheel.

The OBD Scantool can't scan the SRS. Could be your OPDS unit. is BAD. Could be under warranty. Check with your dealer.

Is there any way to find out what the code is for without going to the dealer and paying the $112 they want just to check? My manual from HelmInc.com should arrive today to tell me what the codes are for, but I need a way to check them first. If I go there armed with the knowledge of what the problem is, and it is under warranty, I can save a lot of money and keep them from taking more from me than is necessary.

Thank you for your input.

Looks like you will have to take to Honda to retrieve the SRS code. Bite the bullet - it's a safety repair.
