06 Pilot EX Engine Noise
My 06 Pilot has a rattling noise when I start up a cold engine. After about 2-4minutes of idling the rattling noise begins to fade away and it's not very loud. It seems to be coming from the bottom of the engine, but I'm not 100% sure.
I took it to the dealership a few months back and left it overnight to ensure the engine was cold. They claimed they didn't hear anything. But I know the noise is there whenever you start it up cold.
I am hoping to get some advise on how to track it down and diagnose it. Appreciate any inputs!
The certified warranty has expired already, but I'm hoping this is covered under the powertrain warranty...
Thanks!

Re: 06 Pilot EX Engine Noise
I've got an 04 with a similar problem but it started around 60K mi and has been getting worse over the past 20K mi. Mine is weird because it doesn't come on until I put it in gear and it sounds like a damn diesel. It's not burning oil and the performance is unchanged so I am assuming it's a wrist pin or rod bearing. It seems to be coming from the mid-engine location. I've already tried pulling the signal wires from each cop and it does reduce, but not to the point where I can pinpoint a cylinder. I am going to try pulling the plugs one at a time to see if I can get more specific.
I had the same issue with a GM I owned and they said it was first wrist pin knock and then piston slap. Of coarse, they said it will not affect reliability.
I just hate it because it shouldn't be like that.

Check your front engine mount as per this TSB: http://www.in.honda.com/Rjanisis/pubs/SB/A06-030.PDF

Re: 06 Pilot EX Engine Noise
I've been through this type of thing on other vehicles and I've given up on extended warranties.I hate having to convince dealers that something isn't right and will just fix it myself.
Overall this has been one of the best cars I have ever owned. Just passed 80K miles with no problems. Brakes are still original.
