Default changing the timing belt on an 02' odyssey

Does anyone here have any experience with changing out the timing belt for a 02' honda odyssey? My friend is asking me to help her change it but I have never done one before. Is there an online reference that I can look at?

How difficult is it relative to a civic's timing belt? Are there any other special tools needed other than the crank pulley holding tool?

Thanks

The best reference is the Helms manual. I think they are easier than, say an '01 to '05 Civic, but if you have never changed a V6 Accord timing belt either get a Helms for sure. You will need a pin to keep the tensioner compressed (its like a grenade pin) and a bench vise to compress it, however your best bet is to buy a new tensioner right away because Odyssey hydraulic tensioners are prone to leaking. If you try to compress and reuse a leaking tensioner it will likely fail. If you get a new one do not pull the pin out of it until you are ready to tension the belt.

What he said. Highly recommend purchasing a tensioner prior to doing the job. But overall, it's actually not that bad. There are very easy to find timing marks on the cam gears and the crank so you can't screw it up.

Good luck,

I've never done an accord V6 timing belt before but I have done a 95 Toyota Camry t-belt before and it too had a hydraulic belt tensioner that required a small allen key to be jammed into a hole after the tensioner was compressed on a bench vise.

As for removing the crank pulley do you know if the crank pulley holding tool is the same exact one used on the 92+ civics? For example I did a timing belt on a 03' civic last week and the crank holding tool is the exact one that I purchased a few years ago from Honda to service my friend's 00' Si.

If it is not the same tool can someone here confirm the exactly Honda part # for the holder head. I already have the bar that the crank holder slides into.

Thanks!
