GSR Transmission Fluid
What do you use for your transmission, weight? brand? synthetic or non ?
I heard that you can just use regular motor oil for it, something like 10w30. but i dont want to screw up my car, and I want to put the best products in my car. I had found this post https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=987188 but i wasn't sure if this was the same with a GSR. |
NOOOOO! NOT 10W30.....you need a MTF....Manual Transmission Fluid...go to Honda and pick up 3 quarts, should be enough, or if you want to splurge get into some Redline, makes shiftin notchier, and its synthetic

Re: GSR Transmission Fluid (95GSRsedan)
I have always used Honda brand MTF, bought car in 95 with 24k now has 133,000 on trans with and I also have an s200 with full throttle shifting, it has done me right so far

Re: GSR Transmission Fluid (95GSRsedan)
I use a combonation of MTF, Lucas, and mobile one synthetic oil... the 3rd gear syncro was going out and I put that combo in and it is shifting better than the day i got it. 1qt MTF 1\2qt Lucas 1\2qt synthetic. Mix the lucas and the oil togeather so it is easy to pour in. Good luck

Re: GSR Transmission Fluid (95GSRsedan)
GM Synchromesh Friction Modified is freakin aweome. I used to use only Honda MTF but now use this. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Re: GSR Transmission Fluid (95GSRsedan)
Honda transmission gets OEM Honda MTF https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif
Maybe when my tranny starts grinding I'll get GM Synchro... |
Re: (nicklk)
actually, you CAN use 10w30 motor oil, thats what is recommended if you look in a fluid guide book if you cant get ahold of Honda MTF.......my 1st choice is Honda MTF, but yes, you can use 10w30 motor oil! also, GM Synchromesh is popular as said earlier.

Where do you get GM Synchromesh?

Exactly. Unless you have grinds, then you can try the GM syncromesh to buy some time. |

At gm dealers or just use penzoil synchromesh at autopart stores...same shit. pennzoil is 4.99 and gm is 10 buck quart. They are the same shit |
Re: GSR Transmission Fluid (95GSRsedan)
10w30 non-synthetic or honda mtf
|
So i guess i'll go with just the MTF

GM Synchromesh fluid is a synthetic blend, not full synthetic. The stuff sold by Pennzoil is NOT the same as the friction modified GM Synchromesh. It's the same as the regular GM Synchromesh fluid. |
Re: (PatrickGSR94)
ya dont use other cheap brand..just stick with OEM or Red-Line also GM is good too
(btw: what kind (size)hose u guys use? for fill up tranny fluid) hose that fit on fill up tranny bolt |
Re: (Milano-Red GSR)
remove the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) and fill it thru that hole, MUCH easier https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

there is a new gm synchromesh which is a GL-4 tranny lube and full synthetic. GM Part # 12346190 Chrysler Part #4637579 a.k.a. Castrol Syntorq LT 75W-85. it costs $20/qt. at either dealership, but it can be had for $11.50/qt. at gmpartsdirect.com its used in the dodge viper transmission. |
Re: GSR Transmission Fluid (95GSRsedan)

hell yeah, just one freaking 10 mm bolt... you don't even have the remove the sensor from the harness, just set it aside. then get yourself a long neck funnel or funnel w/tube and fill until it drains out the fill plug, then voila, you're done. btw, gm friction modified is the shizznit... but i also used regular gm synchromesh and it worked fine, as well... then again, i didn't have any grinds to begin with. also, i was using 10-30 for 4 years straight, changed every 6 months... never had a problem, and shifted @ 8500 rpms. |
Re: (obd2gsr)
Honda Fluid is always a good way to go....
I've used Redline MTL on my other Honda....worked fine I'm using NEO Racing MTL in my GSR...NICE AND SMOOTH! |
