my wastegate stays open at idle :(
sup guyz my wastegate stays open at idle and boost doesnt kick in till around 5k rpms. what is wrong? plz help thanks. its a tial style wastegate 38mm
do i need that o ring? can't find anywhere to get it at. http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg ok i think i do already have a valve seat. but i opened up the wastegate and found out one out of four lil allen screws are missing. can that be the problem? when i push the thingy up and down air leaks out of one of the missing holes. tell me what u guyz think. http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg u see those three lil screws? its missing one of those https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif sorry for the bad quality pics took from camera phone http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/we...MXk1NDE%3D.jpg Modified by egturbo at 9:36 PM 7/15/2004 |
Re: my wastegate stays open at idle :( (egturbo)
Assuming the wastegate is not defective, the only way it could be bleeding or leaking exhaust at idle is if you have a vacuum signal going to the top port or neglected to put in the valve seat between the gate and manifold.

Re: my wastegate stays open at idle :( (turbopimp)
Have you figured out the problem yet? and what kind of wastegate is it?

yeah about it used and i see a gap betweeen the valve and the falnge. is there a place i can get that seal? 38mm tial style wastegate. |
go to a parts store and buy some gasket material. Make your own. Razor knife and some scissors.
Do you have that ring in there? If you do you'll know what I'm talking about. Turbopimp called it the valve seat. |

You might want to contact them about purchasing the ring. If not, then the Tial piece might work, but I'd check with someone first to make sure 100% about compatability. |
Re: my wastegate stays open at idle :( (egturbo)
ok quick question.. which port on the gate did u hook the vacuum line up to?

i hooked up a tube from the side of the wastegate to the turbo fitting https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif |
Re: my wastegate stays open at idle :( (egturbo)
tial "style"? Maybe that's your problem. My genuine tial stays closed at idle.

We had this problem last night on my buddies civic. Then go get a plug for the port on your compressor housing. |
Re: my wastegate stays open at idle :( (TRUST8383)
did u try and check the spring inside the wastegate?

nope how do u do that? and imma try that vacuum source thingy once i get my car back from the shop https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif not gonna have my car for bout 2 weeks https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif |
Re: my wastegate stays open at idle :( (egturbo)
bump for this guy cuz I have the same problem right now....
|
Re: my wastegate stays open at idle :( (egturbo)
open up the wastegate and check to make sure the diaphragm and spring are both seated properly.. and make sure there are no holes in the diaphragm. just undo all of the allen bolts around the housing but make sure u hold it down tight.. otherwise the spring pressure will make the top of the housing fly off

Re: (MusclecarGuyhasHonda)
oh and the inside of my car u can smell the exhuast makin me sick https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif when ur wastegate was open at idle did u smell exhaust? im not gonna drive my car anymore.

Re: (egturbo)
are you sure the (excuse me... i dont know the name of this part) 'valve' is closed at idle? The little exhaust valve looking thing with a long stem on it, it connects to the membrane via 2 or 4 set screws and if these get lose the membrane cant grip the valve stem, and it will be too far open. mine was https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

Re: (B18EG6)
You need that ring to seal the wastegate from flowing exhaust past the valve...You do not need a gasket and I actually recommend running without a gasket...Use a Gasket for your dumptube and click the Vent from Outside Air to Recirculating Inside Cabin Air to keep the exhaust gases out...
