how do i get pinstriping off without hurting paint
 

is there a good way to get the pinstriping off i am assuming maybe i should compound it when i am done too any suggestions would help thanks matt

depends if the pin has a clear coat over it...if not take a razor blade to it..;p

if it is the stock pin stripe, and it is more than a couple of yrs old, then there is no way around it....it has sat in the sun for so many years that it is pretty much a permanent part of the paint now.......

Actually I removed my pinstripes after 11 years on the car. What I did was to first start peeling off a pinstripe. Then I used a hair dryer to heat up the pinstriping in the direction I was going (medium works better than the full hot setting for this) and peeling the pinstriping back. This gets the big majority of the pinstriping off. For the bits that didn't come off and the general adhesive residue left on the paint, I used this stuff called "Removes-All - Graffiti Remover Towels" I don't know where to get them (they were at work) but they're made by Ultra-Chem & their # is 800 451 0726. The towels did a great job of getting off all the extra stuff (they do seem to remove any wax on the car) but don't seem to damage the paint.

Oh yeah - If you get some of those towels, get rubber gloves - they ain't good for any sort of contact.

heat is the key, take a blow dryer to it, and try to peel as much of it off as possible, it also all depends on how long its been on the car but generally rule of thumb is if you can peel off a tiny bit from the ends then it will most likely come off.

You can try to use Windex and a razor blade. I heard that works.

over the summer we had to pull factory pinstriping off of my friends 91 accord all we did was use blow dryer and it will wrinkle then grab with ur fingers and pull while heating in front of it to keep it going.DO NOT USE RAZOR BLADE OR ANYTHING BESIDES HAND it will mess up ur paint hella.
