How to fix exhaust leak? (DIY)

ok i already know everyone is going to tell me to just go to the muffler shop, but i find that it's pointless and a waste of money since i'm going to be swapping exhausts in about 2 weeks anyways.

well basically my exhaust has been bottoming out everytime i hit a few bumps on the road and it eventually ate a hole through the piping. i went to take emissions today and the sniffer didn't detect enough exhaust gasses due to the leak. they told me they can't pass me if their isn't enough exhaust gasses coming out of the muffer tip. what is something i can use to seal up the hole good enough just so i can go take emissions without it leaking?

If you have a mig welder just weld it if not get some JB weld and a piece of metal and put it on there.

That should hold long enough for the sniffer to do its job and then forget it because your swapping the exhaust.

but if you go with JB weld do it when the motor is cold and your not going to drive for the night (takes about 4 to 6 hours for a good harden) Then go off and take the test pass and enjoy it https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

yeah i was thinking about JB weld. you think it will hold good enough? the hole in the exhaust just happens to be where it bends too, so it might be kind of tough to get a piece of metal in there.

They sell exhaust repair kits at pep boys, autozone, etc... I used one on my 96 civic. It worked for awhile but it's leaking again. You could try that. they're only like $3-$6.

If you go with JB weld i dont know how hot there allowed to get so if you put it on say tonight go to the sniffer first thing in the morning so it doesnt start to crack or anything.

But JB weld is a strong fucker i used it on some stuff and its great.

there is one type where you wrap your exhaust piping and then when u drive it... the heat of the exhuast gases cure the tape on...

yeah, thats the kind i used. You have to take some tin like from a soda can and put in on the hole in the piping first then wrap it. It worked for a week or so i think. I guess u could do both. Like jb weld the hole then wrap it up with that other stuff..

there are stories of people using JB weld in rally events to fix little holes in their block *shrugs* if itll do that than itll sure as hell fix up a little exhaust leak. just my two cents

jb weld. the next best thing to super glue.

I second that.

if your swappng exhausts in 2 weeks anyways why dont you just drive the car for 2 weeks and then swap the exhaust? i mean your going to spend $ and time on your old exhaust and its going to be out anyways, its a better idea to leave it alone. unless your tabs are expired and you need to pass emissions.. maybe drive another car that you have or have a friend drive u around..

friend had same prob. buy a tube of exhaust mender. stuff works really well, for a ghetto fix, and should last long enough til you get the new exhaust. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif
