How to get hood open? Hood latch broken! NEED HELP ASAP!!
So a couple of weeks back I found out that my hood latch cable was stretched so I had to cut it halfway and manually pull the cable to open the hood. Now the cable is all fugged up and not working and the hood is shut. Is there a way for me to get the hood open without the use of the cable at all???

Just get up under ur hood with a screwdriver and push the latch open with the screwdriver. It kinda takes a bit of patience, but once u do it once u'll be able to do it again no problem. I used to have to do it to Saturn Ions all the time cause their hood latch cables broke when it got cold outside.

What? no crowbar? sawzall? C4? Just park it in a bad area of town overnight, I guarantee someone will help you open your hood. |

K guys I just dived under the car to check out the screwdriver idea. Two things:
1. Where exactly are you putting the screwdriver? The only access to the latch area is through the bumper grill. I can just barely get my hand through the grill but once in no further. 2. You can't see the hood latch, so even if I got in there somehow where would I put the screwdriver?? I need some MAJOR HELP HERE! I don't want to have to do something sick to the hood!! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif |
bump, i am having the same exact problem

Re: (akaEsCo01)
just follow your hood latch cable and you'll see the "hook" that it is connected to on the latch. Then place the screwdriver in such a way that you will move it the same direction as the cable normally would. Bingo!

Re: (Pacman88)
Another easy way to open the hood, assuming the cable is in its stock location, would be to remove the top of the fender liner, reach between the liner and the fender, grab the cable and yank it toward the rear of the car.

Re: (8point6)
on my civic i just reach throught the middle of the bumper a lil more towards the passenger side and feel for the cable (thin hard line) then just give it a yank to the left
|
if the cable is completely unattached from the latching mechanism, it would be useless to pull the cable. the screwdriver/crowbar would be the tool to use along with a jack.
