Why would my front brakes are grind if my brake pads are still good?

The grinding sound comes from the front passengers side wheel. It happens when Im braking and just before I come to a complete stop. Is my caliper frozen? I just had my rotors turned about 4 months ago, are there any ideas or if anyone has experienced this same problem? Thanks

Your pads/rotors may be slightly out of alignment relative to each other. Sometimes the pad surface can rub against the edge of the rotor. The rotor edge can be somewhat rough and a grinding sound can result.

The fix may be just a repositioning of the pads.

Brake dust. Or maybe you need to get the disc brake quietner gel and put it on the shims to keep them from vibrating/squeaking. Or if you got cheap brakes it could be that. But I'd try the disc brake quietner stuff first.

I had that happen too and enventually I had to buy a different set of pads. I think they were slightly undersized so they moved around a bit in the caliper. Maybe get a different brand of pads and slap them in there. That fixed my problem. Learn how to do it yourself, its really easy and it will save you alot of money.

Thanks for the replys first off. I have checked my pads, both inner and outer and they have plenty of life left. Also, the grinding sound Im experiencing seems to come from the passengers side front wheel only. If the pads were out of spec size then Im assuming that both wheels would make that sound. Anyway, the pads in there now are Raybestos. I might just go back to OEM stock pads to see if it cures the problem. thanks

If you have done any hard brakeing in the pads they may have glazed over or even crystalized. Try taking them off and scraping them on the ground to make them rough and try that. If that doesn't work just go with a different pad. This happened to me with my axis metal master pads. I finnally went with AEM pads.
