I think Crower seems to be the most popular brand. People will argue between the 62403 vs 62404.

What kind of power are you looking for? Do you have some set HP goal, or E.T? Camshafts will give you a slight increase in power, depending on their design, but to fully get their real power you new cam gears, and head porting, maybe some valvetrain components as well, depending on the apps. Turbo cams vary from all-motor cams as well, I have friends with Skunk2 cams and they swear buy them and I have a friend with JUN IIIs and that thing is unbelievable.

well since you have a ls you will not be running any skunk or jun shit so i would say the most taked about cams out there are crower then jg and there are others out there web cams, crane i have a set of jg 303 cams for sale let em go cheap if you want them hit me up....

im plannin to have around 220-240 hp in my motor...im tryin to find a good place to send my motor to so they can port and polish it and get a multi-angle valve job.. do u know of n e good places to send my head to? i want to get skunk 2 cam gears along wit my cams. I'm also going to get crower valve springs and retainers. i got many plans for my motor but i need to know wat the best cams are for my motor... i heard crower was good but thats all i hear about cams for an ls...

91tegrals 01-07-2004 07:03 PM

well ill let them go for 175$ there bigger then the crower 404s i have not actually had them in my car cause my motor is going out fast so i never put them in but have heard they pull good in the higher rpms and they rev too like 8.5 so you will need a ecu chip but i have hearsd they pull good so um let me know if you want them....

Do you expect this engine to be streetable? You are really pushing it for 220- 240 whp! I would say 200-210 at the most... and this is with a b20 bottom end/ crazy compression/ biggest cams possible/ excellent portwork/ and a standalone fuel management system.

I would say the best cams for an LS motor are Crowers. If you are looking to get the most power out of your engine get the Crower 405's. These are not the 405a's these are the 405's with .502 lift. You will need to get your head machined to allow cam clearance.

Crower or Crane, i say make the best cams for ls motors. They are made from billit cores, not regrinds.

404's are the usual but all motor LS making that type of power you'd better upgrade.

Re: best cams for ls motor? (NA Gen2Teg)

I had the Crower 403's with the duel valve springs before on my first LS motor and it ran good.

The idle on it was a little ruff but it ran good. Back when we had emissions I never passed so depends on your needs.

I tried it for turbo and it did not work for me plus Crower said that it have too much overlap for FI. (just letting you know)

topped out my car at 134mph at 7200rpm with it.

i had 403's when i had an ls. I ran it with my stock valvetrain and it was great. It would idle like stock also. But eventually got bored of and would have went with 404's. If you plan on getting springs and retainers, i'd say 404's all the way.

The most commen cams I have seen used in b18b1's are the crower 403's or cranes that are close to the duration and lift as the 403's

91tegrals 01-09-2004 03:33 AM

if you want a good eal on crower cams check out ebay theres a few on there for a decent price...
