Re: what does maintance required light mean. (CD8)

ok well actually today i turned off my check engine light. I kinda freaked out when it came on because it came on after i put my cold air intake. So i called the dealership and they said its nothing because the check engine light is not of inportance or something like that. Like if it was your engine light on, then yeah that would be important. To be safe, you can go to the dealer to find out whats up. But if you keep your car finely tuned then just turn off the car, hold down the reset button (next to your milage guage) and then turn on the car, keep holding it for about 10 sec, then it should turn off. Its in your manual. Good luck

I just bought a 99 4 cyl Accord and have been through owners manual but don't remember anything about "maintance required light"

My maintance req. light went on like a week ago with 27k on it. It turns off by holding the reset milage button in before starting the car for 10 sec then turning it on with the button still down for another 10 sec. or so.

maintance required light means
that

maintance is required:

go to autozone or dealer and have it checked

OK I found the maintance light instructions in owners manual. After it has been reset will it start the sequence over or does it stop functioning after a preset number of miles?

Re: what does maintance required light mean. (georgeda)

i have a 2001 honda accord and the maint. req'd light was on and all it meant was that the oil needed to be changed. so it could be anything. i would have it checked out at a dealer or some place that will give you a free estimate.

it means to start pullin codes

racing99accord 07-17-2003 11:35 AM

the maint. req'd light is just a light that comes on after however many thousand miles, all it means is that u should take it into the dealership and that should check everything over. You dont have to take it in though if u read the manual there should be something in there that tells you how to turn the light off if u dont want to take it in and have it maint'nd. Good luck and i hope u figure it out

Heat 07-17-2003 12:33 PM

When you reset the maintenance required light, it'll come back (flashing) after 6,500 miles (I think), and will be solid after 7,500 miles. Until you reset it again.

Do the maintenance, it'll keep the car running longer. Most of it you can do yourself.

Re: (Heat)

i have a 94. all that i've found it to be was an oil change recommendation. i change mine every 3k anyways, but it's supposed to come on at 6k.

Re: (calcnerd)

All the Maintenance Required light is is simply a reminder that says, "Hey, you probably need an oil change or something!" I personally don't use it to remind me, so I just reset it and just keep watch over the car like the light doesn't exist. There's no sensor or anything saying there's something for sure wrong, it's just a reminder that goes off at a certain mile interval since the last reset.

And I personally say f-- taking the car to the dealer. I'll do maintenance myself. That's just meh though.

And pull codes? WTF are you talking about preluder?

This may sound really stupid, but it's true, a lot of times the maintenence required or check engine light will come on if the gas cap is not on tight. Just make sure that you tighten the cap 'til it clicks!

Wow, didn't know that. I stand corrected...

And about the old thread... yeah, I know... was linked and just figured I'd post my thoughts, lol.

It means your light is broken.

It is supposed to blink to the beat of your music... it's called "Honda Dance Mode."

I'd look into getting it fixed or getting an aftermarket one.

Re: (94HybridEX)

The people above who stated that the maintenance required light is simply a reminder light are correct. It is only connected to the odometer and comes on solid in either 7500 mile or 10,000 mile intervals. The main item
Honda has scheduled at this time is tire rotation. That's it. You can check your maintenance shedule for what else needs to be done such as tranny service or valve adjust. But the light never comes on for something being wrong with the car. Every day I get several calls and walk-ins from people who won't pick up a manual to read the smallest thing. They are convinced that their car is going to blow up. Any dealership that tries to charge you for simply turning of this light shouldn't be a Honda dealership. Push and hold the trip meter button then turn the key to accsy. 2 position for 12 seconds. This should be long enough to reset it when it starts flashing at you.
