anyone ever have a ignition coil go bad (symptoms)

what did your car do when your coil went out. i think my coil took a dump. last week it started to sputter at around 8k rpms. today it started to do it like at 3-4k rpms. it was like the car was hitting the rev limiter.

i think it time for you to buy a new car. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emhammer.gif

if the coil goes out then the car wont start, your ignitor might be going bad though...

When my coil went, my car just shut off on the highway. No voltage from distributor to spark plugs.

Same here. My coil went out constantly and it would usually just stop the car.
I finally took out the MSD 6AL and I've never had a problem since.

if the coil is going bad it starts to overheat, check that after a mild drive

you'll start to have high rpm miss firing.

probably ignitor, sounds like the same symptoms my car had.

hey mine just started doing that right now really bad actually died at idle, mine used to sputter randomly usually in the 3 to 4k range kinda like a rev limiter im pretty sure its the ignitor, damn 6al, do they make a ignitor that can handle the extra voltage, MSD should make one so people dont have this freakin problem

I hate my car right now its a ENDLESS MONEY PIT!!!!!!!
lets see what i need, oil change, new ignitor, possible a map sensor, new mounts(500 bucks) tires rotated, and my e-cut out fixed because my greddy sp sounds like a fucking fart can right now (so not cool, only to some people but definitly not me) waaaahhhhh waaaahhhh waaahhhh instead of woooooohhhhh woooohhhh woooooohhhhhhh

My coil went bad and my car just shut off, i had power to the distributer but no spark, $40 ignition coil from Napa will make it start right up

Are you having a problem at high rpms while driving up hill on freeways or high rpms in general cause my ef hatch w/ d15b vtec swap is sputtering, bogging, and loses acceleration during an incline only when I turn my car off and back on it clears but shortly after starts all over again. Only codes my ecu is showing even during the issue are codes for my primary o2 sensor and vtec oil pressure switch. I'm stuck at this point any insight/help would be greatly appreciated

I have been going thru these problems for a while. I finally figured it out. Accel has a high powered coil that I got off of anyautosport.com. I got the whole super tune up kit they offred. New coil, distributor cap, spark plug ,wire set, and 2 rotor buttons. I also purchased the accel spark plugs to match. I got the timing light loosened the distributor and re timed the emmisions according to spec. The sticker should be on the under side of the hood. For a stock single cam d16z6 it should be + or -16° before top dead center. Which means start the timing light on 0. Then line up the distributor with the light flashing on the mark on the harmonic balancer, then turn the timing light to 16 and the other mark on the damper should also line up perfect. Tighten the dizzy and u should be good. I found that The high powered coil allows for a more accurate emissions timing. The only problem I did have was the rotor button happened to break, I stalled out on the highway and was worried the coil went or the ICM. Ignition control module. But it was only the button. A stock rotor button will not create good rpm's but it allowed it to drive. I repaired it with Jb weld but I been using the other one the super tune up kit came with. This has deffinatly solved my problem with the coil and ICM going bad. Remember jus adjust ya dizzy correctly and don't move it. I highly reccomend accel's super tune up kit I love how it fixed my problem.
