B20 /Vtec WHAT water pump to use??
I have a B20B long block
I also have a B16 long block B20 water pump is 19 tooth B16 water pump is 22 tooth What is the GSR tooth? Can I use the B16 water pump on my B20/vtec and use a GSR timing belt? Any advantages/disadvantages to using a non-vtec or vtec water pump? |
Re: B20 /Vtec WHAT water pump to use?? (Dan GSR)
you cant use a b16 water pump
here are the ideas behind a gsr pump the water doesnt move as fast, hence better for high rpm. The longer the coolant stays in the radiator, the better it cools down w/ a LS pump it is designed for lower RPM operation, so high RPM action means that the coolant doesnt recover in the radiator for long enough time. blah lbah blah i dont think there is much difference if your replacing, you might as well go with the gsr pump/belt |

Yes you can use the B16 water pump. I am using one. All B series DOHC VTEC water pumps have 22 teeth. You can only use the GSR timing belt if going with a VTEC water pump.

Yes, you can use a b16 water pump with GSR belt. If you use the B20 pump, you have to use a B20 belt. B16 pumps are the same as ITR/GSR. Oil pumps used to be different, but Honda only produces 1 now for all B series VTEC motors, and B20s too.

Re: B20 /Vtec WHAT water pump to use?? (Dan GSR)
You have two choices (reguardless of what ITR, GSR, B16, etc.)
19 tooth water pump is a non-Vtec pump 22 tooth water pump is a Vtec pump Vtec engines operate at higher rpms than non-Vtec engines, to sustain proper heat transfer capacities of the cooling system the water pump pully diameter is increased, slowing down the pump. Vtec water pump on B16A block - use Vtec B16A timing belt Vtec water pump on B16B, B18B, B18C,etc blocks - use Vtec B18 timing belt nonVtec water pump on B16A, B18B, B18C,etc blocks - use nonVtec B18, B20 timing belts The water pump pully dameter and cylinder block height determine what timing belt you must use. |

VTEC pump... B18C timing belt... It's that simple... Latez
