JDM H22A Gas requirements?

I searched, and I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this already... However, I figured I would ask anyway, just to be sure. I'm getting a JDM H22A next week. I currently use 87 octane in my 92 Accord.
I'm guessing I should use premium (93) when the H22 is in? Someone told me today that a JDM engine needs higher octane gas than we have available at most pumps (like 106), is this true?
What would the effect would using low octane gas have on the engine? In other words, if I stick to 87, will I blow it up?

The USDM h22 needs premium gas. I assume the JDM version is the same. I would use at least 91 octane.

Yeah, in my part of Jersey we have 87, 89, and 93. At least the prices aren't bad... they're bad for here, but they're nowhere near the rest of the country! $1.49 for 93 https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

I'll miss getting over a half tank of 87 for $10, but hey... I'm sure the H22 will be worth it!

Thanks!

Sweet! Thanks! That's good to know.
Since you're in NJ, do you pass emissions at the inspection station, or do you pay to have it pushed through a private place? I've been told lots of stories about emissions and stuff, but nothing based on experience.

you need to stop spreading misinformation

you need to use premium (91+) octane with an h22a1 h22a4 or a jdm h22a, your ignition timing WILL adjust for crappy fuel and kill some power

use atleast 91. but since money isn't a problem for me, i used 94 octane from sunoco for both of my DOHC VTEC beasts...it burns cleaner and more efficiently.

Right. What I thought. I guess this goes for any high compression engine with OBD2 management, right?

Would you happen to know, if I chose to use premium in summer, but 87 in winter, the ECU would adjust, but then would it re-adjust to premium again next spring??

alot of jdm h22s are obd1, like mine. Since the swap i have used 93 octane and not looked back. I just found out there is a station in town that sells 110 octane at the pump. I am eager to try it.

i accidentally put in 87 octane in my jdm h22a once, a full tank, and ill never do it again for the next week or so I own my car, it ran like crap

you dont use anything less than premium fuel with this motor unless its an emergency

Re: JDM H22A Gas requirements? (Nick M)

when you out 87 piss water in the H22, the knock sensor will pick up pre-ignition and will retard timing. this means a slow ass car. it has nothing to do with the OBDI or II ECU.

i personally like good name brand gas 93 octane from Sunoco, Shell/Texaco, and Mobil. also, my friend has found that mobil 93 and sunco 94 runs the same. so i wouldn't waste money on sunoco 94, just get mobil 93. he had a chip in his camaro and it would ping unless sunoco 94 or mobil 93 was used.
