Installed my 99 SI Rear Sway Bar today!

I am VERY impressed with the difference. It really tighened up the rear end. Total cost was about $150.

heres how it looked to begin with:

This was the easiest way to get the bracket secured to the car. I used Locking nuts for a little extra security.

Dont forget to leave the bolts loose so you can get everything aligned right:

Cleared my Thermal Exhaust just FINE!! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Should gone ITR rear bar for the price you paid for the SI bar - Its like $175 from Beaks with his mounting kit..

Thats my opinion...

it's only 13 mm, even the stock si didn't come with reinforcements. no need.

looks good https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif i was gonna do the same setup, but my custom exhaust doesn't clear. thinking about buying a complete catback so i can put on the bar. it's just sitting in my garage, missing one endlink and bracket.

Question #1) What car is this on I take it a civic, but what year and trim level?

Question #2) Why did you go w/ the SI rather than Type R? (just out of curiousity)

Question #3) Preloading the car??? What's this mean... and how do you do it? (sorry I am trying to learn as much as I can before I do it myself) https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Looks good though!!!!

I *think* preload is when the car is on jackstands so the springs are compressed...

If im not right, someone correct me..

1999 Civic DX Coupe

Question #2) Why did you go w/ the SI rather than Type R? (just out of curiousity)
I was told that the ITR's hardware wouldnt match up, so i went with an SI, and since a friend of mine works at a junk yard, and found the bar, with enlinks and harware for 75 bux https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

because if you tighten it up in the air, the strut assembly won't be compressed, and when made full contact with the ground, the strut assembly will be compressed, with the sway bar at a different height. if it is tightened down in the uncompressed state, and you lower the car, your going to rip out the mounting hardware, and possibly bend/break the sway bar. that is what he meant. just use your brains more.

your kinda there but not really. a sway bar is basically a straight spring. if you tighten it in the air the sway bar is set to how the suspension is in the air and not how it should be(when on the ground). so by tightening it in the air you put a load on the bar that should not be there and that hinders the performance.

did u have to drill anything or did they just bolt on.
also about the preloading question, how would u tighten the bar if it was on the ground?

nope, it was all pre drilled

you just have to lay on the ground and loosen them, then tighten them down

can you tighten the portion of the sway bar that connects to the LCA while it's in the air? or do you have to tighten these after the car is settled on the ground?

once its on the ground......it "can" streach the bar out after a while

im just going to fix it when i put my suspension on at the end of the month.
