How do you take off the "rotor"/"rotor button"???

I was gonna do a tune up (first time by myself) and i couldn't get the rotor off. Haynes manual says something about a "retaining screw", but I didn't see it. Thanks.

P.S. Now my damn Check Engine light is on, WTF???? https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/mad.gif

there's just one screw holding it on....right in the middle. Should be a gold looking phillips head

edit- you might have to rotate the engine until you see it. You have to look from the top of the engine, or bottom because it goes in the side...hard to explain, but you;ll see

Dude, I don't see it. Also there is this black casing under the rotor button, which cannot be removed unless the rotor is removed. I didn't see a screw.

95 Ex coupe. Sorry forgot to add that earlier.

uhhh the rotor isn't held on by a screw? lol. There should be holes though. 2 to be exact that are not occupied. Get a bolt that fits and put it in one of the holes and tighten it down a little. Then do the other hole. Keep going back and forth. Also try to get a penetrant in there. Prolong works well. If you still can't get it off then take it to a shop and see if they have a drum puller. I think you can use a drum puller on rotors(not sure).

There should just be a screw, screwed into the side of the shaft. Like somone said earlier, you may have to bump the engine over to rotate it correctly! Remove the screw and the rotor slides right off!! As far as the CEL I have no idea....... http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif

Hey man, just thought you'd like to know that he is talking about the "rotor" in the distributor, not on the front of the vehicle. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emhammer.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emhammer.gif BWAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ye , one gold screw. I know it's a pain in the ass to try and turn the motor over and look for the screw at the same time, just be patient. As for the check engine light, when your done wiht the rotor thing reset the ECU and go from there.

The easiet thing to do is to have a buddy give the motor a quick crank (turn the key real quick till it tries to start and let go real quick). While he is doing this you should have your head down in behind the distributor. You will see it. It is a gold screw. It may take a few cranks to get it to line up.

As for the CEL, while you were messing with all of this trying to get the rotor off, did you accidentally unplug any plugs or connections. Try to pull a code. Let us know what you get.
