'86-'89 Integra/'84-'87 Civic/CRX Suspension Setups
 

For those that drive a G1 Integra, or G3 Civic/G1 CRX in SoloII events, what is your current suspension setup? I'm looking to fine tune mine, and would like some ideas/suggestions etc.

Here's what I'm running in my '89 Integra

Lightspeed 24.5mm torsion bars
Ground Control rear coilovers w/ 325lb. Eibachs
Koni Yellows (off-the-shelf) - front - full soft/rear - 1/2 stiff (or 1/2 soft)
Suspension Techniques 3/4" rear sway
Stock '89 Integra front sway
Tires PSI - 43F/32R

Depending on what you want to do with it, I have developed a variety of custom options that you can do (shortened, single or double adjustable, revalves, etc). The rears can be converted to externally adjustable and/or revalved also. The torsion suspension cars have a number of issues that can be helped depending on your ride height and if and which camber plates you have.

You didn't really give any input on what you think of your current set-up, balance etc. which is the most important as once you have a fair number of perforamcne parts, your best method is to target individual issues or improvements on the path to making the package better. In general, I'd think bumping your rebound settings up a bit might help some, say to at least mid-range on the fronts with those 24.5s and about half turn from max rear. In my 85 ITC CRX, I run stock torsion bars, with a 21mm sway bar and Illumina struts in the front. The rear has 600 #/In Eibachs on adj perches around Illuminas with an adjustable King Motorsports sway bar. Car handles like a dream and is very neutral without too much oversteer.

I should try to remove the front sway bar to see how that affects things but it just handles so well currently. I do need to upgrade to different shocks since the Illuminas are old and getting tired.

I have 27mm Torsion bars matched with 450 lb. rear springs on my '85 Si, H5 Honda Challenge car. External adjustable Konis in the front and internally adjustable Konis in the rear.

2 of my other CRXs have Tokicos Illuminas, but nothing interesting for springs, yet.

I autox these whenever I get the chance.

The setup now oversteers fairly easily, especially when lifting off the throttle in high speed turns. I'd like to loosen up the front sway bar a bit, and get the rear Konis made ext. adj. so I can dial them in much easier and quicker.

I noticed my right rear shock hangs down at full extension when the wheel is lifted off the ground. Is this implicative of a blown shock?

No, that is to be expected with any shock to have the suspension droop when jacked up.

Will I see better rotation in the car, if I were to loosen the front sway bar a bit?

can somebody please direct me to a website where i can order lowering suspension parts for my 1986 civic base model 1500 motor, i have only been able to find 2'' lowering springs for the rear but i already have adjustable lowering coils from a newer civic that im sure wont be too hard to make fit... its the front end that im having trouble with.. up front it is a single shock set-up on each side and i would like to find adjustable lowering shocks/struts for the front.. any help would be greatly appreciated, i just want adjustable coil overs for the rear and whatever i need to get for the front to have adjustable ride height... and a $1,500 dollar setup is out of the question, i wouldn't mind paying $150 for a set of front adjustable ride height shock/struts.. someone plz help point me in the right direction, do u think an 1986 crx has these items that will bolt right up to my stock base model 86 civic... i really just want to drop my ride a few inches and be able to raise it up when the time comes... plz and thanks for any help i can get thanks ~Erok~

can somebody direct me to where i can find a lowering kit for my 86 civic hatch base model.. all i can find is 2 inch rear drop springs on ebay... i have some adjustable rear coils from a '93 hatch.... but id rather use somethin made specifically for my car or something that would fit right in... also i cannot find anything to lower the front.. its just a single shock (strut) and i cant find shorter ones.. if that made sense could someone help me out...also any pointers to where to find a short throw shifter.. this stuff is usually a piece of cake to find for any other car im just having troubles..

^^You already have adjutable ride height suspension on the front. You can lower the front of your car by adjusting the factory adjustment nut for the torsion bar and/or pulling the torsion bar out and re-installing it at a lower ride height by jacking the front knuckle before putting it back in. If lowering it would be advisable to get a stiffer torsion bar (i.e. Litespeed or use the longer Integra) and upgrade to a Koni shock.
