shifting problem in 2000 accord

Why does my transmission not go into gear when stopped!!! On and off while at red lights i will try to shift into first and for some reason the tranny won't go. it's like i'm not pressing the clutch down and trying to shift. to shift, i have to roll backward a little before the tranny engages.

check your clutch master cylinder and see if it is leaking.

My 93 has the same issue and the fluid is just fine, also my 01 TypeR had the same issue. Seems to be a random honda thing, sometimes letting up on the clutch and putting it back in before shifting to first helps, I just try to go into first just before the car stops, annoying at a long light but easier than not going into first right away when the light turns green.

I don't understand because my car has been doing this practically since i got it. would a new racing clutch help engage the tranny?
