How to read engine codes on a 1990 accord.
Hi im new to the post and I'm having problems with my 1990 Honda Accord ex four door automatic. The S for sport mode light stays on and the transmission doesn't shift right. I think my car is in Limp Mode because i think its stuck on 2nd gear. I have been doing a bit of research and turns out it's a common problem for these cars, and is usually the TCU or the VSS or some sort of other sensor, But i dont really know how to get the codes, and the autozone said that they can only get codes for '96 vehicles and up my cars to old, i want just do it my self but not sure how? Any info on codes and the S problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: How to read engine codes on a 1990 accord.
You use the same self diagnostic method as the OBD1 Civic/Prelude guys use. Most call it the paperclip method.
https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-accord-1990-2002-2/how-check-codes-96-accord-2301560/ The procedure is the same as the thread linked above, however the placement of your 2 pin SCS connector is behind/above the side kick panel in the passenger footwell. Where this is a trans error the D4 light should blink, if both the D4 and check engine light are blinking then you could have seperate codes from the TCU and ECU. |
