This question cannot be answered with the lack of information in your post.

what's your power goal?
what's your budget?
what shape is your engine in?
do you know where your closest tuner is?

just a few of the questions you need to ask yourself before you go forced induction

That link won't help him if he doesn't have a budget, goal, and a plan.

Expect it to cost around $3,000 for a decent setup. You could probably do it for $1,500 if you used a lot of junkyard parts, but most OEM turbos won't work well on a GSR because the turbine is designed to spool fast, not have top-end breathing. A 14b or Volvo T3 .42/.48 won't get you to 300whp.

http://www.go-autoworks-store.com/gocotuki.html

Check out the Tuner kit. Keep in mind that you will still need some sort of EMS, bigger injectors, and for 300whp you'll also want a fuel pump and performance clutch.

Rule of thumb for turbo setups is to pick two of the following options: Fast. Reliable. Cheap. You can have two, but not all three.

I think the OP was saying budget for a turbo is $1000.
Not for the whole kit.
OP might want to confirm.

Re: Best size turbo for daily gsr

garrett gt2860rs. I just took one off my gsr. Fkn blast on the street man.

Lots of fast spooling. Hard to beat stoplight to stoplight if you can get traction down low. The tq comes in fast. If you're shooting for 300 this turbo will get you there and get you there fast. I was able to lay down 353 with it.

What manifold and downpipe setup do you have?

Disco potato is perfect! You can get the GT series for $600-800 new as everything is being replaced by the Garrett GTX series. If you had a higher budget I'd say the GTX3076R as it would spool about as fast as the GT2860RS but have much higher headroom for an easy 400WHP.

Actually, prices on average are still in the $1100-$1150 range. The GTX will be supplementing the GT-R series, not replacing it.

This guys needs to be specific yes.. listing camshafts, power levels etc. Many different journal and ball-bearing options are available. But he needs to give information, so that we don't go into a frenzy of "let's guess the right turbo"..

Whoever is paying that much is an idiot. Enjuku had them for like $670 shipped brand new in the boxes!

Ken at Enjuki had this sale for the GT2860R (GT28R) not the Disco Potato. That uses a different compressor package.

He had these until they ran out earlier in the year (about April). They were only internal gated .64A/R setups only. They are back to normal prices as listed...Sorry.

If he has it again, may be worth looking into.

yes yes , 1000 is the budget for the turbo only .. I have an ACT stage 3 clutch and skunk2 short throw shifter, not really stressin money right now , already putting somewhere in the area of 200 hp to the wheels .. but my block and head are fully built, skunk2 valves , retainers, got hondata s300 v2 otw ,walboro 255 lp-h fuel pump otw , as well as rc 370cc injectors , mizu radiator, hasports mounts and axles , just lookin for turbos. Also, I need this setup to be reliable as possible

theres a injector calculator somewhere. and you still have not mention what pistons/rod set up you have and whats the compression?

TKERacer619 06-26-2012 09:01 AM

Re: Best size turbo for daily gsr

Yes. I would run 750cc

Re: Best size turbo for daily gsr

No reason why you couldnt run 1,000s and have a low duty cycle while giving yourself more room to grow in the future. Everyone gets bitten by the boost bug, might as well be prepared. Plus, if it were ID1000's or RC/Precision 750's id run the ID's all day.

Re: Best size turbo for daily gsr

You'll be good with a journal bearing 57mm turbo honestly for daily driving. You don't want a turbo spooling too early or else you'll kill a lot of fuel.

I think it has a lot more to do with driving style than anything when it comes to fuel consumption but I've been wrong before.
