the ac on my honda civic lx 2002 works for a small period of time in the morning i turn on my car the ac willwork for a good 20 min the compresor shuts down and the rpm on my car goes up if it is the middle of the day and it id over 70 the ac will not come on what can be causing this problem is it the compresor on the clutch i know its not the relays i just replaced them and had no improvement

have you checked the refrigerant levels? the compressor will turn off if the pressure is too low

heat equals pressure pressure equals a/c not working check your condenser fan and make sure it's working check your freon levels to make sure your a/c compressor didn't purge freon out and if it did purge you have to replace the valve

Likely the thermal protector doing its job, something causing it to activate due to getting too hot.

Agreed^ there is a switch that shuts down the a/c. You gave a leak somewhere in the system. Go to an a/c specialist and they can track down the leak, vac the system and refill
