Do I need to downgrade cams???

Quick question? Can I run my skunk2 tuner 1 cams with an inline pro manifold ?? I've read a few threads where it says you can and cant, so at this point I need a DEFINITIVE answer if I can use them. There currently on my built GSR turbo with a precision 6262 turbo, sk2 intake manifold and full 3 inch exhaust. Last thing i need to do is get on the dyno and lose power do to my cams.

Per Tony at T1 race, "DO NOT RUN ANYTHING BUT STOCK GSR CAMS" with that manifold. Im on the same one and asked him specifically about this. He said it will create too much backpressure and cause issues. I've searched and searched and haven't found anyone running any with the pro manifold to compare....

didnt evans tuning run one a few years ago in the sfwd car (not the integra). i think that car made into the 800hp range with a cam that i wouldnt be surprised to be larger than gsr...

I call shenanigans. You can run a Tuner 1 with an INLINE PRO no problem.

well fudge!! I had a brand new set of tuner 1's and sent them back. So now the question of Pro 1's or GSC's, hurry up Calidad and get em tuned so I can make the call while im still in progress...

Re: Do I need to downgrade cams???

you never downgrade cams to make power lol your either using too small of a cam, or the wrong profile of a cam

Re: Do I need to downgrade cams???

I'm guessing the notion that you shouldnt use the 2 together is based on reversion contamination, so why wouldn't you just go with a tubular manifold instead?

No. that's fine, but the GSC's will work better on a surfer than even a Tuner 1. You didn't do badly.. WOOO SAAA..

I was just saying as a matter of correlation that its silly to think you can't run tuner 1's at all with an inline pro manifold.

Thanks for all the advise so far guys. As for Pro 1's or anything equal to it in size you CAN NOT run it with a log manifold. I ve read numerous threads and it will cause back pressure and loss of power. On that topic NOT ONE person has come out and said other wise that you can run Pro 1's with a log manifold. Has to be an equal length manifold i.e ramhorn, top mount etc... As for the Tuner 1's, thats were it gets sketchy. There has be at least a person or two out there that has actually tried this combination .

A pro 1 would need to be used with a turbocharger that's at least 61lbs/min or above, which many people wouldn't use with an INLINE PRO anyway. So I don't think that it can't be used as a combination, but that it shouldn't be used for best results.

There are a lot of guys I knew for years running on an inline pro and a tuner 1 cam. They also used turbochargers that were 44lbs/min-58lbs/min. Small enough to not cause any issues with high exhaust backpressure.

Dont want to sound dumb now, but is my 6262 more than 44lbs/min -58lbs/ min?

Re: Do I need to downgrade cams???

The pro 1 have too much overlap? And yes, the 6262 is a 65lb turbo at least.

Re: Do I need to downgrade cams???

FML!!! So my tuner 1's + inline pro + 6262 = problems then ??

Re: Do I need to downgrade cams???

6262 in general is alot of turbo for a cast log but the inline pro t4 manifold has been able to produce over 900hp so i would imagine thought not ideal it will work with tuner1's

I beleieve my turbo to be around 58-60lbs and im running cast top mount and just picked up a set of GSC turbo cams. CTR cams have done me very well but looking for that added little bit of midrange torque the car is lacking with the new car that should be able to happen.

Coheed 04-18-2012 07:30 PM

Re: Do I need to downgrade cams???

It really depends on the setup. I'm sure with big overlap cams and a log manifold you could see issues, but with that big of a turbo I'm not sure if you would have any.

I've tuned before on the 6262 and Inline pro and didnt have any problems. The only difference was I had just a stock gsr head and cams.. I actually had seen your post on Cali-dads thread that you were looking for some SK2 tuner 1's. I was going to hit you up on talks about a possible or trade, but to late now :/

Not from the cams no. Its just a lot of backpressure on a steel cast log with a large turbo on it. It can work, just not sure how exactly.

I'm using pro1 cams and I'm suffering a lot.. Gonna change it out to itr cams though! Right when vtec hits the graph goes face first then climbs back up.. Lol

You guys say logs are bad, but the 2j guys make 800whp on log manifolds...

http://www.supraforums.com/forum/sho...-testing-today

Should a 2 liter Honda motor only make 2/3 that on a log then?

Ill need to see what this manifold looks like before i can believe it.

Well....You could sell me the Tuner 1's and ill give you my Gsr's and $. I honestly think you would be ok with using them (even tho i would like you to sell them) But if you end up getting the GSC's keep me posted as id be interested in buying them.

Ha ha.. I already have a pair GSR cams sitting in my garage, I just dont want to flat out downgrade all the way. I did stumble onto this old thread and it does appear that with a log manifold (inline pro) like myself, the biggest cam you run is the ctr/itr cams and not lose power. So I may be putting up for trade and some cash on top here soon ;)

supra motors can deal with backpressure a lot better than a b series can.
