Re: valve cover paint?

Use heat paint of some kind If you do it right and prep real good it won't chip

I use that metallic high heat paint in the spray can from advance Auto parts works like a charm just make sure I sand it good and prime it before using the color paint

Ive always been a fan of powder coat, but really any type of paint is usable, as long as you prep the right way.

Powder coat IS awesome. But for the investment of a can of VHT and a can of Tal-Strip I can get really good results four times before I equal the cost of taking it to a powder coater once.

This what my valve cover and intake pipe look like with the right prep and VHT paint from advance.

You should use high temp, not just regular spray. Engine bay temps will maul regular spray real quick.

Even with a high temp clear?

Tal-Strip, mask, acetone, VHT, bake. Came out perfect.

Yes. Different chemical compositions to the paint.

Personal opinion: Powder coating is a waste of money, and a played out scene. If I'm showing off my valve cover, I'd rather show off the time and effort I put into painting it than show off how much I can spend on having someone else do it for me.

srry to thread jack but would the spark plug cover on b16 be bad to have plastic dipped black? I mean its plastic and I don't think it'd get nasty... I painted mine with the plastic dip. Still have to get engine to run then I will see what happens lol

This is my last car....I used paint thinner to get off the crinkle3 .

Not really a fan of the crinkle.

Then sanded a bit and used some regular ol rust oleum to paint.

I did 3 coats with the white rust oleum and then applied 2 coats of clear.

I think it turned out pretty good.

Ehh its a matter of opinion, I personally don't care for valve covers that aren't a stock color. But yes, it can't be restated enough... the prep is the most important part.
