97 civic evap p0453 and p0450

im trying to sort out the cel on my civic as inspection is up this month. codes are p0453 and p0450 also the o2 sensor which i plan to wire in soon. car lopes when warming up, also idles quite low once warm.

there is no shut off valve on the charcoal canister installed and the wire harness has a plug for it.

i have 1 other charcoal canister which has a shut off valve that has a different plug than the one on the harness. it is very similar but one of the tabs is on the wrong side. it also uses a different size hose on the canister to the tank.

its a 97 2door dx with a 99-00 d16y8 swap although the harness and ecu is from a 96-98 to match the year of the car.

Re: 97 civic evap p0453 and p0450

my other question is the evap from 96-98 different from 99-00. the part numbers look different just asking as i have found parts for a 99-00 but not for my year.

any input is appreciated.

what is needed to complete the swap? do i need cabin harness and gas tank? o2 sensor and ftp sensor need to be wired? i might as well swap the harness out. I need this finished by april for inspection.

Re: 97 civic evap p0453 and p0450

i had this problem in my 4dr with gsr swap. the reason ur throwing this code is because ur car was probably not equipped with a fuel tank sensor. some cars have them some dont. i have a 97 civic lx and it didnt have one but the gsr computer i got with my swap was looking for it. u can try to get that sensor and try to wire it in to the ecu,or get a ecu from a 96 civic/integra, or possibly throw ur old ecu back in if ur lookin to pass emissions.in my case i had to get a super rare usdm p30 ecu and paid a good amount for it.

Re: 97 civic evap p0453 and p0450

okay so that explains some of the confusion, some cars have it and some don't. some post i read said you dont have to do all that.

anyway i threw the old ecu back in a couple days ago to see what would happen and it was barely idling as the d16y7 ecu uses a different iacv was also throwing a code for this. it would be nice if the wiring for the ftp and 2nd o2 were on the same harness i could just swap it out.

Re: 97 civic evap p0453 and p0450

will any gas tank from 96-00 civic ex work? including 99-00? same for ftp and evap? how hard is it to wire the sensors in?

is there a parts list somewhere for a y8 swap into an ex? can find a definitive guide or parts list.

so incredibly confused i just read a post that said you don't need to swap the gas tank to accompany the ftp and evap.

I have question I have 98 honda civic lx was getting code 1457 for small leak near cannister so replaced the charcoal cannister purge solenoid so that code went away but now I am getting code 0450 and 0453 should I try unhooking battery to reset ecm and see if those codes go away
