01 Civic EX Wont Start... Electrical Issues I beleive... Need HELP!!!
I have a 2001 Honda Civic EX with 251,200 miles (bone stock) and the other day I was driving and the heat shield on the front exhaust manifold broke off and set off a CEL and Battery light. I ran the codes and got the following...
P0141 Oxygen Sensor Heater Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 2 P0135 Oxygen Sensor Heater Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 1 P1298 Electrical Load Detector (ELD) Voltage High P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor After a day of driving it I went out to start it and it didn't start. I jumped it and ran fine but then died a few mins later. I noticed my dash lights, tachometer, speedometer and radio all shut off then the car died. I replaced the alternator and didn't seem to help. I replaced the battery and it fired right up I drove it to work about 8 miles away and on the way home when i hit my brakes my radio died and dash died again. My Battery light is off now but CEL is still on obviously. I addition to replacing the battery and alternator I replaced the 3 ground wires with 4 gauge wire but didn't help either. I only replaced them cause i had the supplies and the old ones were in rough shape. I'm running out of ideas and thought id reach out to my fellow Honda-tech members for help. Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated Dave |

Have you tried getting the new codes?
I'd check for loose connections on the battery terminals. |

Change the ELD. (Electronic load detector) It's in the engine fuse box, strapped down by a metal plate near the two "big" fuses. This sensor interprets current draw and instructs the ECU to increase field strength in the alternator to charge your battery. If that sensor is defective, you are basically running around without an alternator, regardless of whether or not your alternator is new. See picture, brown box labelled "ELD". Removal is simple, a #2 phillips head screwdriver to remove fuse 18 and 19, the metal bar between them slides out, the ELD unplugs from below. Reinstall in reverse order.
Edit: This may be a 96-00 civic, but the fuse boxes are very similar and ELD replacement is the same. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/honda-t...6f7fc773b5.jpg |
