97 civic dies after starting and running a couple minutes
I have a 97 civic with a d16y8 and its starts fine and runs fine for about ten minutes. After it has been running the rpms drop the car sputters and dies. While the rpm are dropping it will not respond to the gas or clutch pedal being pressed.
If I wait about 5 min and start it again sometimes it will start and drive sometimes it will repeat the previous process and I will have to wait ten minutes. I bought this car in September (it did it twice) and it has done it twice this week.. It has not had the issue at all over the winter but now the weather is warming up (60's - 70's) and it is starting to do it again. I have read through the boards and I am thinking maybe main relay but honestly I have no idea. |

Rare for this generation to have main relay issues.
Any CEL's? I would test the coil and then ICM. |
Re: 97 civic dies after starting and running a couple minutes
I had an issue over the winter one time where the car wouldn't start but had power when the key was turned to on. When o yried to crank it, it wouldn't turn over. I tried jiggling the key as I started it and it fired up. Are you thinking maybe it is the ignition?

Automatic transmission cel's (ppl that had it before me took the ecu out and put that in). I have a new ecu coming tomorrow. I'm going to check the solders on the main relay just to make sure its good.

Update* changed out the fuel filter over the weekend, still having an issue. Like what was stated above I think I have a weak fuel pump, I will try that tonight and update... I love hondas.
