D Series LSD Transmissions
 

it seems pretty easy to find a LSD tranny in the B series.

trying to find out ALL the options we have to get real traction with the D.

as far as i know, JDM ZC or JDM D15B VTEC was the only 2 factory options for the 4th gen.

are there any other D trannys (hydro or cable) (5th or 6th gen.) that can be mated to the D block?

only other option is aftermarket LSD (OBX, Quaife, Mfactory)...pretty pricey after you buy a rebuild kit and pay for service. Which could also come with problems like losing the speedo? or fitment without machining or modification?

there were dohc ZC 88-91 LSD tranny's available. but youre not going to find them anymore, the boat has passed on importing those old engines and tranny's, literally.

and they arent the same as comparing them to aftermarket.

i still have my sohc zc LSD tranny available, for sale.

Yeah the ZC tranny's are a rare find these days.....this is a interesting topic because I've been flirting with the idea of putting a LSD in my Si tranny.

is there any difference between the DOHC ZC and the SOHC ZC tranny?

Good question.....one might be a hydro....(certain year of SOHC ZC)....not sure but just a guess. Has anyone used or know of a good reputable LSD for a D series tranny? Not to cop your thread man, just thought I'd ask since we were on the subject.

D series tranny casings were the same for the most part. There are slight differences, throughout the years and models, but the main difference is not whether its dohc vs sohc. You basically differentiate by size of axle, and therefore larger axle trannys need an intermediate shaft.

Little details like gearing, and final drive and whatnot are all too specific to make generalities.

ZC, or 1.6L d series were used in so many different cars the variations like number of cams, vtec, etc that there are so many different types of d series trannys too.

But for the most part, don't bother looking for a LSD d series tranny, youre not going to find one readily.... Except the one I'm selling. Lol

True.....and from what I've read of people that have stock LSD D series trannys, they're not that great....especially if you're gonna be adding power.

doing a lot of research, i have decided to go the route of getting the Mfactory LSD and finding someone professionally in the area to rebuild the other si tranny in the shed (grinds 1st and 2nd and reverse) and installing the aftermarket LSD diff.
i noticed a lot of people complaining that the oem lsd's were not that awesome any ways.
price Mfactory LSD $650
rebuild kit $300
labor $300
$1250 added to a $100 transmission. I think I will have it 24K GOLD plated too. i would lol, but it hurts too much.

I've been veering down the same path as you my friend.....would love to find a ZC tranny to make a ZC/SI hybrid but that'll be a while or I'll get lucky one day. Anyways, if you're gonna be rebuilding your tranny then go for the carbon plated synchro's. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

Actually I still do. But I'm not looking to get rid of it. I have space to store it and might have plans for it later/soon.

You'll need axles and an intermediate shaft too if you really want to use it. The shaft is also hard to come by.

Hey folks, you all seem well ejumacated. Sorry for bumming in on the thread. I recently detailed my mom's 2000 Civic dx and found the dealership paperwork and it says it's got a JDM trans. Could I be enlightened with some more info?
