Setting Timing & TDC for '96 Honda Accord

I just did the O-Ring Replacement on my Distributor today. After I was done I went to start my car, and it wouldn't start! Argh! I realized I hadn't set TDC before removing it.

What should I do now? How do I find TDC for Cylinder #1 and make sure the timing is correct? Should I remove the sparkplug and then "feel" for it? That's how I have been told in the past to do it.

the distributor should only install one way. unless it is forced on backwards..unlikely. you probably mixed up the spark plug wires. recheck the firing order

I marked them before I took the wires off, but maybe they are not tight. I will check and make sure.

Did you mark the distributor and the engine side before removing the distributor?

Yes I marked the distributor, and it is set on the marks.

Pictures of Distributor!

Here are pictures of the Distributor and I numbered the wires. This is how the wires came off the Distributor. (At least I think so.) Is this the right Firing Order?

I think that is how my wires are situated, but I am not entirely sure.

The wires go 1-3-4-2 in that order on the distributor. Number 1 cylinder is on the timing belt side. 2 is next to it, 3 is next to it, 4 is closest to the distributor.

Look for the A symbol on the cap and that will be where wire 1 goes. Then just go in order above.

You don't have to set tdc when you remove the distributor, but if you don't have a timing light it's best to make a couple marks across the distributor and head so that you can put it back on without setting the timing. If you didn't make marks then you have to re-time with a timing light.

FIXED!

It is Fixed! I just turned the rotor 180* degrees and it started up. Put some coolant in it, because I replaced the heater hose under the distributor, and drove it around the block. Runs well.

However... when it is in Park the engine revs up to about 2000rpm and keeps doing it, even though my foot is on the brake. Also the locking mechanism sounds like switches on and off, but the locks are not doing anything. Only does this for like 10 seconds, but it is kind of weird.

At least it runs and the Check Engine Light that was giving me a P0135 engine code disappeared.

probably just gotta bleed the coolant. reset the ecu too

Coolant

Didn't bleed the coolant, but opened up the Valve and poured coolant in. Seems to have solved the problem.

Sounds like the door lock motor/actuator. Sometimes one of the "pads" inside comes off and can be put back on....saves the cost of a new one.
